Here's what actually happens:
1) Sometimes, two bridges appear, one, call it "A", seemingly aligned with the player engine's path, the other, "B", off to the left, not aligned with any track. Other times, a single bridge appears, apparently aligned with the player engine's path.
2) In either case, attempting to drive ahead leads to an immediate crash, because the bridge is not actually aligned properly.
3) Pressing <G> to align the table enables a drivable pathway across it; if both bridges are visible, "A" disappears, "B" appears and moves into alignment; if only "A" is visible, "B" appears and moves into alignment, apparently overlapping "A".
Note: in the editor, only bridge "B" is visible. Evidently, "A" does not really exist, but why does it sometimes appear? Can the "real" bridge be set to always appear in the running scenario as it does in the editor?
Here are a few screenshots that may help:
A: player-driven engine and transfer table as seen in the editor:

B: a situation not even mentioned above: player engine and transfer table's empty pit as seen in scenario!

C: player engine and transfer table in scenario as they ought to appear:

D: player engine and falsely aligned transfer table in scenario (leads to derailment):

E: player engine and two transfer table bridges:
{too shy to show its face again!}
