Fixing the gap on the COA

Unread postby ozinoz » Sat Jan 12, 2013 3:22 pm

After about a year of being unable to devote any time to RW due to family health issues I am now able to spend a little time (you can draw your own conclusion *!sad!* )

I have rediscovered the COA (still my favourite route) and had cloned it to make some mods (change some buildings, add trees, lights etc; just tinkering). I had noticed this issue at Ronceverte - a great gap in the track.

and I noticed a great gap in the track by the coal tower. I went back to the original of the route, and it is there too. I certainly don't remember deleting any track. The problem is I just can not join the 2 parts. Can somebody possibly step a route tweaking noob through how to join these, it would be greatly appreciated

*!!thnx!!*

Hi

First off, are you absolutely sure the track is missing and not merely invisible? If it's invisible (whereby you can see the yellow outline of the track in the route editor) then try and delete the section and then undo the delete. Hopefully the missing bit will reappear.

If the track definitely isn't there then I would proceed as follows.

Image

Split the track by the red lines (you might want to shorten the marker a bit to give yourself some room so it doesn't get deleted). The right hand split needs to be as far away from the point/switch as you want, but you want to give yourself at least another 20-30 metres beyond it if you can. You should then be able to lay the track on the water tower line again between the two splits - as long as your new section (my green line) is on the same gradient as the original is should weld itself together really easily.

Then I'd re-lay the point from the stub in the direction of the yellow arrow.

Shouldn't really take more than about 30 seconds, but don't quote me on that. *!!wink!!*

Cheers

Bob

I may sit beside you all the journey through,
Or I may sit elsewhere, never knowing you.
But if fate should mark me to sit by your side,
Let's be pleasant travellers; it's so short a ride."

Thanks Bob...

Invisible track - not heard of that one. To be honest, I panicked when I saw it missing in the editor and havent actually checked it in the sim itself. I will try a freeplay in Ronceverte and see if it is there and take it from there.

Well, the track was definitely missing and after more than half an hour and track shooting all over the place, as well as other missing track *!mad!* ; I have nothing but admiration for the route builders. Only thing left was a reinstall, so all my mods gone, but at least I am all connected again.

I really don't like the "live cursor" in the route editing - every asset you place the cursor over becomes live and it is so easy to move or delete unintentionally. I guess you get used to it, but I'm not a fan...
