Milepost coordinates?

Unread postby 5292nate » Tue Jan 08, 2013 8:02 pm

Is there any way to find the coordinates of a milepost along a given railroad? In more detail, I don't know a route well enough to place the first mile marker. I want it to be a prototypical route, but I can't place the mileposts if I don't know right where they are. Did that make any sense?

Thanks

Nathan

Without a track chart or intimate knowledge of the line you're working on, your guess is as good as anyone else.

Best best, even though the tool's availability is hit and miss sometimes, is the FRA's GIS site at http://fragis2.frasafety.net/GISFRASafety/default.aspx .

Zoom into the area you want to look at, click on the "Map Identify" button (circle with a lower case i in it) and click on the MP number to get the lat and long.

It worked for me earlier, but seems to be hit and miss.
Cheers!

Keep hitting F5 to refresh, or wait. Like I said it is hit and miss.
