Fort Smith to Heavener scenario fixes now available

Unread postby OldProf » Sun Dec 30, 2012 11:24 am

Rich Garber has posted a link to a small ZIP file that contains fixes for scenarios 5, 9, and 13 of this route. Go to http://www.allaboardrails.com/am.htm; the link is at the very bottom of the page. It contains six files for each scenario that have to be unzipped into the appropriate scenario folder and Rich has labeled each set with the correct scenario number. Unfortunately, he forgot to identify the code name of the route itself (e73b20cf-7173-4f0d-8ead-etc.) or provide a read-me instruction file. A RWP installer file would have done the trick more nicely and neatly; this method requires some dexterity and I'm sure that some folks will get it wrong and then blame either Rich or RSC for their own ineptitude.

Come to think of it, I'll drop Rich a note and ask if he'd mind my putting together a RWP package once I've installed these updates.
====================
Edit: I just noticed that the Ft. Smith to Heavener route folder includes two distinct scenario folders, one labeled "Org Scenarios" and the second called "Scenarios". So here's a puzzlement: into which of these folders should the fixes be installed? or perhaps both? The scenario code numbers are exactly the same in both folders and my SWAG is that TS2013 reads the "Scenarios" folder and ignores the "Org Scenarios" folder, which Rich should probably have deleted before publishing the route. We all make mistakes, right? !*don-know!*
=======================
2nd edit: Here's a howdy-do! The RSC packager will not package the files contained in Rich Garber's update package. The files in question show up in blue print in the packager and cannot be moved into the right-hand column, which contains the items to be packaged. I'm now off to attempt a solution to this situation.

Sorry to correct you but there is a read me file and explains everything that was mentioned. He said in the read me file that the org scenario is not longer needed and will not be in the next release of the route. the name of the read me file is "FSTH Scenario Fixes (up to 12-28-12)" which states "TO INSTALL, if you're computer skills are good... (skip to the next section if your computer skills are not good.)

Search in your Railworks folder (found under Steam/Common/Railworks) for the folder marked Content and 'left click' into it...

Find the folder that matches the following, e73b20cf-7173-4f0d-8ead-c6cf8f8158fc, and 'left click' into it..

Find the folder Scnenarios, and click into it...

Copy the folders from the zip into Scenarios (which will prompt you to overwrite the previous versions, say yes).

And you're done!

Please note that you will see a folder Original Scenarios. This was included because a bug was found in the Scenario editor which was corrupting scenarios. The bug has been fixed and this folder is no longer needed and will not be included in the follow-up release of the route as noted in the next section.

Seems you don't know Rich Garber if you think he makes amateur routes.

There are crossing lights and signals on this route If you are not seeing them then your install may have been bad and you should try looking into it

Rich Garber made some of the best routes and scenarios ever conceived for MSTS. After a lot of thoughtful hesitation, he put his skills to work on routes and scenarios for RS and I'm sure not to be alone in being grateful. His first few creations for this sim expressed one of what I see as his core philosophies: authentic railroading chores mean more than AI. He has surprised me considerably by widening that philosophy in this Heavener route to the point of double-tracking some stretches of mainline, which I view as an interesting evolution.

As to road crossings, his RS/TS routes have all included working crossing gates (memory tells me: I really need to revisit Colton and Northern, among others), but I think I'm correct in saying that Heavener is his first route to include road traffic at those crossings: another interesting development. All of the crossings and road traffic I've observed behave correctly; well, except for the somewhat suggestive pile-ups, but those certainly aren't Rich's fault. Now that I think about it, in a world where trains can slip right through seemingly solid objects, buses and cars and trucks that melt into one another are perfectly logical.

All I can say to Rich Garber is ... !!howdy!! {standing for "Hat's off", not "Howdy"}

In my opinion, the route builders here at RWA do a much better job.

I always look forward to all Rich's routes and never been disapointed yet, His first offering in MSTS were Ohio from memory i drove that to death and then went on to Canton and such, Far from amaturish he puts his heart and soul into all his work. Always very quick to reply with a friendly email if you have a query. Nothing nice to say about people, better to keep it to yourself. Regards Peter
