14 FPS seriously?

5 engines
130 stack cars, give or take
1 DPU

14 FPS? What is wrong with the picture? How can I improve this? Is this a normal frame-rate, for a train this size?

Thanks

Nathan

Something appears to be wrong with the new update - I noticed the whole sim is sluggish as molasses in Winter. Worked fine (and fast) the other day, and rebooting, clearing cache, and defragmenting didn't help. Even after exiting the whole system is dragging. Me thinks a memory leak has crept in. *!rolleyes!*

I was using summer. *!sad!* I ran it with 2 engines and 16 wagons yesterday, and the frame rate was rather decent. !*don-know!*

Long trains kill frame rates more than anything else. I can build up a scene with a rediculous degree of detail, thousands of objects from horizon to horizon and run a 5 wagon train at 25fps+, but I'm lucky to break 20fps on Sherman with a long train which is sparse on scenery.

Makes me mad. Can't be realistic without long trains

It also depends on the total poly count. Using simpler wagons would help, so would using a route with good frame rates.

I'm working on a one tile test route using a half dozen objects. FPS the other day was in the triple digits - today it's sub 40. Nuts!

I ran a pretty long train for almost two hours today. I don't keep track of frame rates but absolutely no stuttering and no issues. What kind of equipment are you running Nate?

Weird. If this goes on, it's definitely a new bug from the last update.

I think if you start poking around you'll find out that the 9100 is kind of marginal for RW and if you want to rev the graphics up you are going to need to upgrade. 64 bit Win7 is super for the game as far as I am concerned. If you want to talk about this some more take it over to geek speak and you'll get a bunch of info.

I went from a GT520 to the GTX550ti and it was like night and day in performance. I have everything maxed out and nary a stutter.

My fps are quite good actually ! Smooth ride. GTX680, Intel I7-3770k, 16GB RAM, SSD.

I echo what buzz456 said.. Nate, a new graphics card will surely help you achieve better fps. What cpu are you running ?

I assume you mean processor. That would be AMD Athlon II X4 630 processor 2.80 GHz

As for geek speak. Let's move into that slowly. I'm still getting acquainted with the really technical stuff.

Here is the full system specs.

This low FPS with a long train, has been a pretty regular thing since I got Railworks 2. **!!bang!!**

Think video card. Your setup should be fine other than your I think built in video card.. Look up Nvidia GTX550 ti on Google. If you only have one screen you can probably get something for less that will do just as much. I'm serious when I say my RailWorks is just like watching a movie since I put it in.
