Can somebody please help re consist placement before I get homicidal :

I don't get anywhere near enough time to play - life etc, in fact the longest I get to devote to RW is some time on the forums during the work day, but I have managed to get a couple of free hours and decided to try and create some scenerios using the cab forwards for the COA route, but I am having a heck of a time trying to place consists. There has to be an easier way...

I can create a consist no problems, but when I try and place it where I want it to start, I can not place it so the loco is where I want it to be. The placement always seems to be mid consist. How do I select the entire thing and move it backwards? The other issue is there seems to be no logic in how it is placed - loco on the right or on the left and I can not seem to be able to swap the entire consist even when I do manage to select it all.

I have even tried placing the loco and adding to wagons, but each wagon addition seems to jump the loco further and further down the track until it is nowhere near where I need it.

Surely there is some way of specifying "I want the loco HERE" and it placed from that.

Time for a coffee I think.. 10 hours too early for a beer...

I'm with you!

I usually find that the consist glides helpfully along the track until it's about 3 car lengths from where I want it and then it jumps 1/2 mile away.

Have you tried creeping up on it? Sometimes works for me.

Placing long consists can be a pain, what I do is zoom way back, have it set up to grab everything (click the consist button in lower flyout), then when you select it and get the gizmo in the middle, grab the train in the middle near the gizmo and place it that way. If you are zoomed out enough to see both ends of the train you can place it better that way. But if you are on a S curve it can even be harder as sometimes the train will not go on the tracks.

If you do not want the consist button always checked (for me sometimes that is worse than having it checked) Just hold the shift key down while you click on the consist and it will select all the cars in the consist.

I can select all the car in the consist, but I just can not swap its direction in entirety or move it as a single item. Usually ends up with 1 car pulled out and then there is a definite blue cloud in the air and I have to delete everything and start again. This part of the program really is sub par. Placing consists really should not be that difficult.

I have actually placed 100 car trains (both player and AI) from the Saved Consists in my scenarios (Donner Pass and Sherman Hill), changed their direction (flipped), and moved/repositioned them... at times it can be extremely frustrating. The initial placement should be on a length of track with no switches.

You should be able to select the entire consist by enabling the Consist Selector in the lower left Flyout, clicking the train, and leave it selected until you changed direction and moved the consist. Also when moving the consist click on it as near as possible to the center of it and move it in small increments. When the consist is in the desired location and pointed in the desired direction, you should disable the Consist Selector. Works for me.
