P42DC Upgrade

Unread postby donjgatlin » Sun Nov 25, 2012 9:13 pm

After a few issues with my P42DC, I received this response from RSC.

Dear Donovan,

Yes, the P42DC has been removed from sale for that reason. The development team are working on fixing it, how long that will take, is uncertain at the moment. The update will be issued via Steam so there will be no re-purchase necessary.

We're sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you and will try to resolve this as soon as possible.

Please reply to this email rather than generating a new email, this will avoid any confusion, it also enables us to read the history of all correspondence in order to provide you with quicker assistance and better support.

Keep an eye on the Train Simulator 2013 website:  http://www.railsimulator.com or Like us on Facebook:  http://www.facebook.com/railsimulator for all the latest news and details about upcoming releases.

My issue is sound. The sounds are not reminiscent of a P42 at all.

So they are willing to fix the sounds for this, but not for the F40PH ....even though you emailed them about fixing the sounds YOU submitted. Their attitude seems bipolar. On one hand they are willing to fix things like this and Donner Pass, yet could care less about fixing the F40PH and other matters. Their mindset is one of the oddest and contradictory I've ever seen in a company. You'd think they would care about getting things right not only from a reputation point of view but also for their own sense of personal pride and accomplishment.

Seems like for every one guy like Derek over there, there are at least one or two that could care less. How else do you explain the hit or miss results in fixing issues or getting them right in the first place?

Like I said...they are a very odd company. !*don-know!*

Like all software shops, they log all support requests and suggestions, then someone assigns a priority to them.
Their priorities depend on a lot factors that we can't know, such as availability of resources.

BNSFdude offered to fix it and resubmit his own work to RSC and they refused. I don't see that as a resource issue. Other than giving it a quick play test and adding it to the next update, how much time and resources is that really gonna take? BNSFdude did all they heavy lifting for them. Pretty simple to me and YES I used to program for companies in my younger years (moved on to hardware), and this would be a no brainer if I was the producer or project manager.

wait wait.. I was stating my issue with the P42s. I don't speak for RSC at all. That would be Matt or one of the PR guys, or Support.
They just were busy with other projects to consider having me send in the fixed audio for the F40, send to QA, Beta it to make sure there aren't issues, then submit to Valve.

There MAY be a chance that when they remake the scenarios for the F40 set that my update gets pushed.

The Donner Pass and P42DC came out long before the F40. The F40 may still be updated at a later date, but right now its just not that high on the priority list.

I'm glad they're fixing the P42 sounds I hope they also fix the emergency brake application whenever you resume a scenario as well that drives me nuts.

So BNSFdude, I'm curious, do you work for RSC, or are you just a really good audio man who they come to when they need sounds done?

How long have you had the genisis and is it on a scenario you wrote or one that came with it?

I've had the Genesis since approximate November 2011. Occasionally it works, sometimes it doesn't. It seems all scenario's are affected. Quite frankly, I'm tired of the inconsistent pattern with the DLC of working and not. It's frustrating as the P42DC is my favorite locomotive, but I can't drive it half the time. I've looked all over for a solution, but none of them seem to be pinpointing the problem, but rather just having me conduct memory clearances, verification's, and changing of the graphical settings; none of which have worked. *!sad!*
