Strange "Image Here" icon in Sherman Hill Scenarios [solved]

Unread postby MontanaRails » Sun Nov 11, 2012 10:14 pm

EDIT: this is a TS2013 bug introduced after the "German language" bug was fixed. See posts below for details.

I posted this thread earlier, but apparently there was some sort of glitch and it disappeared...so:

Has anyone seen this pop up for them before?

Screenshot_Sherman Hill_41.29476--105.59616_17-03-48.jpg

I've seen it on a few scenarios since the last Sherman Hill micro update (the one following the accidental switch to German). When I tracked the file down, I notice that it's also in my back up railworks folder from September.... !*don-know!* Even though I've run most scenarios when Sherman came out, I've not seen this before. It seems rather unprofessional, quality wise, for RSC. But, I havent downloaded anything I'm aware of that would have modified any core files.

Here's the file's location:

Anyone else have this issue?

That should be a picture of a person, right? I haven't run Sherman Hill again since I used Lonewolfdon's fix for German. Maybe RSC's German fix broke sumthin'. !*don-know!*

That one shows if the correct picture can't be found. You may be missing a few files...

The really curious part is when I compare it to my backup folders for these scenarios (which was made from a totally fresh download when TS2013 came out) its exactly the same for image files.

Edit...wait a second...

The new update DID mess up additional files. I just checked, and I'm not missing any files.

The html text instruction popup displaying the PH.png "Image Here" file is actually calling for this. So everyone should have this new fault.

In my backup folder that was prior to the "German" update, its correctly calling for "Eric.png".

So while we can copy the old scenario instructions (if we have a backup) to the new folder as a temporary fix, this is another bug that RSC needs to fix. *!rolleyes!*

PS. There are also a bunch of empty scenario folders in this route folder now, too...

I know this thread is more than a month old, but I just bought the "new" TS2013 at 1/2 price so I could get the three routes for less than the sale price on the individual routes. !!*ok*!! So now on Sherman Hill I get the "Image Here" error just going out of Laramie:

Something Missing.jpg

It gets worse further along the route, where I get the "Image Here" popup and the text simply says "<location> Text" where <Location> is the name of the marker that prompts the popup. Seems as though the problem is not solved. This is as of today. I just ran it again this morning hoping that as I opened Steam this morning it might update something and fix the popups. No such luck. !*hp*!

Any and all suggestions welcome.

Thanks,
M.
!*cheers*!

Well, I just cannot resist commenting here, and I've been holding this particular fit in check for some time. The only valid assumption in the statement quoted above is the smiley, which translates, "I don't know". I'm really fed up with folks who assume that anything that goes wrong with their installation of TS2013 (or whatever previous version they're stubbornly hanging on to) on their computer is the fault of RSC. Yes, RSC makes mistakes, but as numerous threads that begin with a "broke" accusation and end with an admission of personal problems (including internet connections, inadequate resources, inept editing, etc.) prove customer errors are far more frequent. To all the members of the "broke" set: try simply describing the problem you're experiencing and asking for assistance, or at least sympathy and empathy, from forum members without playing the Chicken Little card by immediately blaming RSC for what has happened in your installation on your computer.

Whew! I certainly feel better for having gotten that out of my system. Time for another mug of coffee!

I'm glad you feel better after getting that out, and I'd agree with what you wrote if it was in a thread with poorly described problems, or by someone who didn't have the means/knowhow to troubleshoot and was just firing away blaming RSC. However, your remarks seem quite out of place here. I did very careful testing and verified that this problem is a result of an RSC update. Several other people also were able to test and verify this as well. I even showed the code in the troublesome files so the whole world can see that there indeed is a problem with the images the scenario is calling for. None of this was modified by anyone other than RSC.

Therefore, this thread is clearly in reference to a known default program issue. As I believed was quite clearly stated.

If your install doesnt suffer from it, its because its been modified from RSC default.

fraserm: The "solved" title dosent mean that RSC fixed it, it means we know how to fix it. If you have old copies of the scenario instructions, you can copy/replace the faulty ones. Since you just bought it new, I think you're out of luck until RSC fixes this problem. However, you can modify the files I indicated in the previous messages and use any photo you like (take a screenshot, and use a part of that).

Yep, I think you're right. I have no old files for this route.

Thanks,

And to put to rest any doubt, I verified cache 3 times (and temporarily overwrote all of my sound upgrades, and physics mods - in the name of science), and this problem persists.

It is not user error, it is RSC error.
