Donner Pass scenario still broken?

Unread postby hefy_jefy » Sun Oct 28, 2012 8:09 pm

I purchased Donner Pass when it first came out and gave up on it after two attempts (or around 3 hrs) to complete the first scenario. Thinking that something might have changed since the upgrade to 2013 I gave it another try. Same result; an impasse leaving Emigrant gap - all signals are at danger. There's another train waiting (SRRVU 04) and the way the switches are set we would meet on the same track. All that's needed is to change one switch but although it LOOKS like that's possible (the switch icon appears) you can't. Very frustrating - is there a way around this problem? I gather that there's an upgrade due for Donner Pass - will this problem be fixed?

There are several Threads already about Donner's impending update. For now it is still a mess. When will the patch/ update/ whatever you wanna call it/ be released? Your guess is as good as mine. !*don-know!*

So I am battling on with this - gave up on the first scenario, no idea how to fix that but I am making progress with one of the others "Under pressure good weather". I have now deleted two AI trains which were on the same track heading the other way (of course they are the last two so you don't find out until you have completed about 2/3 of a 360min scenario **!!bang!!** ) Delete the last two on the list in the scenario editor (the names end in 11 and 12) I fumbled around and worked out how to remove them and NEXT time I may make it all the way from Sparks to Roseville. Take it easy, stick to the speed limits don't use the dynamic braking on the steep downhill bits especially from about 11miles before Dutch Flats (I derailed there three times). Oh and keep saving...
Its cool as night sets in and the moon and stars appear - then you can't see the floating scenery. *!greengrin!*

I didn't have any problems with the first scenario (just completed it today). However, the 2nd scenario won't load, as it is telling me it can't load the SD40-2 or the SD40T-2. Currently validating my steam cache files and hoping that will fix whatever is messed up. Anybody else run into this?

Validating the steam cache files did not fix the problems. I have isolated it to being the non-dynamic SD40T-2s that won't load. Digging through the game files reveals that the bin for the SD40T-2 was last modified on 9/22/12, whereas the dynamic SD40T-2 and most of the other Donner Pass files were last modified on 2/17/12. I wish I could figure out how to re-download Donner Pass, as I'm pretty sure that would fix it. Any tips? Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure which scenario you are talking about. Can you give me the description? Maybe I can help out. Which exactly sd40T-2 bin file are you talking about? I can send you that for sure.

It's the scenarios that start with "2". The bin that has a different date on it is the "nd"version for the non-dynamic tunnel motors.

OK Made it!
The last part from Colfax to Roseville in the dark is actually quite cool and worth the effort...

A touch run? :) Touchdown! :) Anyway, I never made it to Roseville in that activity. Derails or app crashes all the way. The furthest I got was Cascade Bridge.

This one is dated 11/5.

Thank you sir. I'll give that a try tomorrow.

Delete the entire Donner Pass route folder from your installation, then validate the cache to restore the route with its latest contents. The route's folder name is 00000032-0000-0000-0000-(lots of zeros), in which the first set of numbers is the key to look for. If you think that the rolling stock that came with the route is causing the problem you're experiencing, try deleting that as well before validating.

Yes I was derailed there as well, (the whole train was catapulted into the air!) I found that if I did not use the dynamic braking and just used the train brake carefully (not more than 20% and usually around 2% - 10%) the derailments stopped. No idea if this how you would really operate a mile-long train over Donner Pass but it works here. There are some very complicated dynamics with a train this long - I would quite often find that the front of the train was moving forward while the rear was stopped or even moving the other way! I guess thats possible given the spring tension in the couplings. But won't make it unless you remove those two trains using the editor.

Well, that didn't work either. I also noticed that the non-dynamic SD40-2 is also failing to load. After tinkering around in RW4.0, it would seem that the non-dynamic SD40T-2 is also in the 1st activity, which I have run and completed, so I am at a loss as to why it wouldn't load for the 2nd and 3rd activities.
