Hello fellow railworksers:)

I went on vacation for two weeks and when I got home, I was dying to play RW even though it was 1:30 am! So I fired up the machine... It seems there was an update to the game while I was gone as well as an update windows. I did both and started the game. The first thing I did was try to continue a saved game on my own route... or world (2000 hours so far). It crashed the game while loading... something bad has happened. I then tried loading the scenario again but fresh... same thing.

As it turns out, it seems that all other routes load and work fine but not mine anymore.
The only way I've found into my world is by creating a new scenario however I can't then switch to the world editor lest it crash, nor can I play the new scenario even if left empty.

Things I've tried...
I've tried cloning the route... the clone doesn't work either.
I have tried turning off the TSX and set everything to its lowest setting just in case.
I have reloaded a backup.
I have turned off all antivirus and security programs.
I have verified the integrity of the game cache through Steam.
...all to no avail.

My system...
Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit
Intel Core i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz
4 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 ...Driver version 8.17.13.142

Anyhow, if anyone has any idea on what I can do to get back into my world, it would be appreciated enormously.

Only suggestion I have is to try moving all your scenarios out of the route folder and see what happens when making a new one. I am thinking something in one of those scenarios got updated and is messing you up. If it fixes the problem, then move them back in one at a time until you pinpoint the problem child. Good luck, it is a shame to lose all that work.

Now the problem that remains is less severe.
Those files as well as the currentSave files must be gone in order to load a scenario...
What is going on with those files?

RH, do you have the fix for the "core parking" on your i5? you can get it on my website: http://www.abithelp.com/post14505.html#p14505 may help with RW which is heavily CPU dependent.

No. Er, not sure lol. Cool stuff:) However, none of my cores seem to bee parked and are all showing 100% like in the screenshots in your blog. My bottleneck seems to still be my video card. ...even though I recently upgraded, it still isn't top of the line that's for sure! ( Gotta keep some bread for the brews ) Maybe I'm missing something... but thank and you've probably just made someones day somewhere

What made those files bad that they had to be deleted in order to make the his route work?

Oh. Any kind of event can result in a corrupted file.
A bug in the game, or a transient hardware or OS problem while writing the save file, etc.
It's pretty much the same problem with all software except critical applications having high integrity requirements.

Hi! Thanks again everyone.
Now that I've had sometime to to poke around a little more I can now better describe the problems I am having...

I got rid of all of the initialSave files in all of my scenarios.
I though that I had to also get rid of my currentSave files but this is not the case... as it would not crash the game when I start the scenario from the beginning. Though when I start from the beginning, I consistently get broken consists.

What I found was that none of my track welds, either at switches or straight track appear to be welded anymore. ...there are the two opposing end-of-track bumper thingies.
When I go into the editor, they are not weldable as the gray box doesn't appear above the weld point... unless I cut on either side of the weld point, delete it, then hit the back button a few times until it is back. Then it appears.

Restoring again didn't solve this problem...

Is there a way to correct all of the welds at once?

And regarding the initialSave files, they automatically come back and must be remove for a scenario to load, even with all but a newly created scenario completely removed from the scenario folder. My question for this issue is; Why are these initialSave files causing me trouble?

Ok... yet another update...


During my testing, I had made a copy of my route. The copy is ok as far as the welds go so I will keep working with the copy... as for the initialSave files problem; it still persists.
Why must they be deleted in order to play the game? How do I fix this problem?

Check that the original TrackRules file hasn't been moved or deleted, and also ensure the provider filter checkbox that has that trackrule is still checked.

For good measure, I uninstalled RW then re-installed... it did nothing. I'm not sure where to find the TrackRules files... or which track rules I used by who... so I made sure everything I have is active...

I believe the only track rules I've used are -All Track US, All Track TR, and GN Mainlines MS... They are all present in the Track Rules drop-down list.

What I've now notice is that it's not all weld points but most that seem to have been made with my most recent work from the last few months.

I guess it's not the end of the world... I made a little work train scenario and i'll just drive around and fix problems as I run into them...

My main issues now is not being able to load saved games on my newly created "post vacation problem" scenario... as well as the InitialSave file problem that I need a permanent fix for.

RH, why the heck aren't you using Marc's excellent Scale Rails? The default RW stuff is junk. You can get all three, default, UP and ATSF for free. Click on the link below his post. While you are at it, get Scale Roads. Payware version is hi rez.

Argh - I need to upload the SR update to add super elevation. Will do so this week.
