Big Horn Sub track issue?

Unread postby up_8677 » Sat Jun 16, 2012 2:25 pm

I'm working on a scenario (for myself *!!wink!!* ) that involves a large coal drag. I want to start on the east side of Sheridan heading west. However, this is what the train looks like:

Causes consist tilt derailments. !*not-ok*! I am using the britkits couplers. The WEIRD part is that this does not show up in the editor; only when I'm running the scenario.

Yeah, when you're placing cars, that can happen. You can fix it by moving them in the scenario editor so that they don't overlap. It's best to just be careful when placing them to begin with so that they don't overlap.

But they aren't overlapping. I've been up and down several times and I fixed all of those that happened. !*salute*!

Notice how the cars are tilted side to side, and in the side view, the wheels are off the rail. !*hp*!

Turn off the TSX, and all your problems will disappear.

TSX isn't the issue; I have a powerful enough computer. *!lol!*

Oh, I see what you're saying. I thought those were overlapping cars, some grey and some red. I didn't recognize that the cars are that strange multi-color livery. Have you tried other cars?

Not yet, but I suppose I should. They are just the standard "brown" coal hopper. !*salute*!

Is there a pusher attached to the rear of the train? I notice you have slave units in your consist?

I've had the same problem of leaning cars in the "Up the Alleghanies - Storm" scenario's on the COARW. When going through a curve I noticed the leaning cars flipping over to the other side. I am not sure how I remedied this problem, I think I checked the coupler's height.

Hi,

I've seen some weird car tilting in RW, but nothing quite as bad as this! !**conf**!

Can you replicate the weird car behavior when you place a similar (or better, the very same) consist on a curvy, on-grade section of track on a different route with different tracks and trackrule? Like Castle Rock for example. I can't really imagine that something in the tracks or track rule could cause such behavior, but who knows!

Do you mean the coupler height in the car's blueprint? Isn't that set to identical values on all US rail vehicles? (Especially if they are default, like pictured above.)

Cheers,
Michael

Phil (Griphos) was helping me put together a consist for VORA a few months back. 170 double stacks. Sheesh! Yeah, I had that tilt issue, I just went into the editor and deleted that car. Easy peasy! I mean, only one or two cars, after I worked to put together that consist? !*don-know!*

Like I said, I don't exactly remember how I remedied it. I compared the coupler height of the car with the engine pushing, as that was the only thing I could think of.
The remark about deleting a few cars made me think the cars are perhaps bunched up just a little too much.
Did you swap the Kuju couplers for the Britkits while the consist was already assembled? The couplers closed geometry might be slightly different. Perhaps "relaxing" the consist by removing the pusher, saving, quitting, restarting, adding the pusher back again might also help?
