C&O Alleghany

Okay, I'm going to toss this in here and see if you guys can help. Sorry Chris this might be a LOOOOOOOONG post. You guys are my last hope before I delete it.

My problem is this. I can get as far as the loading screen with COA. I get the word 'loading.....' then that's it. I have waited for up to 15 minutes and nothing has happened. When I press the Windows key to get back to my desktop, I have the SBHH message, and that 'RailWorksProc2.exe' has stopped working. And Windows is closing it down. However, I can restart RailWorks, choose any other scenario I have and run it without any problems, but when I choose COA again, I get the loading screen, and that's as far as I can get, until I press the Windows key, and the same old 'SBHH - RailWorksProc2.exe' message.

I have triple, quadruple, sextuple checked everything. I have ALL the files I need for the scenario, well there is one that can't be found, but that's from the 'Add-On' section, its called 'Chessie System C&O CO GP9 Re-Paint Set'. I get a 404 Error when I look for it. I have ALL the files needed. As I said, I have checked, re-checked time and again. I have verified, re-verified my DLC with Steam countless times, and I have all the DLC that I should have.

I have the Big Boy, Challenger, Berkshires, GP9, GP30, SD40/70/75s, Switchers 1200/1500, and all the wagons - freight/passenger, well to the best of my knowledge, that I should have.

I have installed and un-installed everything at least 4 times, and I still get the same result when I try and load COA. I have cleared the BluePrint Cache countless times. TSX IS NOT selected. Everything shows up In Packager and Package Manager. Everything, to my knowledge is in its correct folder. I have 6GB of memory and a 1TB HDD, so I think have plenty of space and memory, I've been trying to sort this for the last three days, and all I've got from it is a migraine.

So, if you guys can't help, then I guess I'm just going to have to get rid of what looks like a very nice route. Sorry for repeating a lot of things, but as I said, its only this route that gives me the SBHH - RailWorsProc2.exe' messages. **!!bang!!** **!!bang!!** !*hp*! !*hp*!

First thing I would do is run RW Tools and check the route, if nothing is missing with the route, then start checking the scenarios. Something is missing. If it is a payware item, the geo shape is most likely missing.

The only way I got it to run was to put it in a separate install of RW. I've had to do this with a few routes.

One thing I have forgotten to mention is that in 5 folders labled, 'Kanawha' - 'CO DomeBaggaeCars' - 'COA RollingStock' - 'CO GP9_12Pack_COA' and 'SD70ACe-Pak1' each folder has a file baring the same name 'RW AssetSetup' which is an Appilcation. Could these be causing a conflict? Since they all have the same name, yet are in different folders. Should I rename them, if so what?

I believe you need to run those applications. They copy required files into the locos and rolling stock.

I have run and installed all those Applications, but I was just wondering if, because they had the same name, maybe they were causing a conflict?

So should I make a new folder inside railworks just for the COA, or a completely separate install altogether?

I'm getting lost between the two Forums. Did you ever reinstall the Steam Client? Copy your "steamapps" folder, uninstall then reinstall Steam, then paste that folder back in. Do a file verify because it never goes perfect.

I have to agree with SamWolf. I have moved Alleghany to a separate RailWorks installation. After that, I can run all the scenarios. However, I would advise that after running a scenario, that you shut down RailWorks and restart it from the Steam screen. I think it will work each time you start from a fresh copy of RW3.

Recently I started to use a trick (from Bob Artim) and now I have multiple installations of RW. Now I use to have especial routes (like NERW) in a clean installation only with NERW route and fleet. I also have (and keep safe) a clean RW installation from which I fastly create other especial installations.

1) rename your \railwork folder to, for example, \railworksNORMAL.
2) verify game cache, Steam will create (download) a clean installation. Rename this folder to \railworksCLEAN. Now you have a backup of a clean installation.
3) copy this \railworksCLEAN to whatever you want and rename it (in my case was) to \railworksNERW
4) to play NERW just rename \railworksNERW to \railworks
4) to play with normal installation rename \railworks back to \railworksNERW, and then rename \railworksNORMAL to \railworks.

And so on...

Cheers,
Doc.

Lol, me too Chris, and yes I did do the above. However since then, I've had a big problem, and Steam refused to load, so I had to uninstall Steam, re-install it and then reload all my files, which it is currently doing, it says it'll take about 5hrs. Then I will probably have to re-install all my Just Trains/UKTS/other stuff lol, so I should hopefully be up and running by the end of the next Millennium, give or take a decade or three.

Thanks everyone, and Don, if/when I get it back up and running I will take your advice, something I should have done from the start. Thanks everyone, Hopefully everything will be ok once everything has reloaded.

That's the way I used to do it, but since the RW3 update, this method wouldn't work for me. Any time I renamed an alternate install and tried to start it I got a "Duplicate Dialog ID" error that I was never able to get around. I even reloaded Steam and RW but I could only get my main install to work. I finally used the seperate Asset and Content folders for installs and just rename those as needed.

I started to use the method 3 weeks ago, with 4 different installations. What is that error message? from Steam? It looks you did it, but you may try (again) to delete only the \Steam\ClientRegistry.blob file, and then Steam will verify and restore its own installation.

Edit later: all my 3 alternative installations were created over a clean installation. Maybe if you copy the files of a clean \railworks (I mean only the "files", no directory) into another may work, once few files change when you use RW.

Maybe I'll give your method another try. The message popped up in a small windows message almost as soon as you clicked on "Start"

Let me know further what happened. Another minor detail (any detail may make the difference): I rename the folders, then I launch Railworks (I mean the .NET splash screen) and only then I "Start" Train Simulator 2012. *!!wink!!*

Edited later: forget about the minor detail, is not possible to rename railworks folder whilst game is using it. *!embar*! *!embar*!
