WTH? Image from the Scenario Editor

I was editing one of my own scenarios, transiting to a new area using the 2D map procedure. When I got there and as the scenery was regenerating, I tried to move around and got this:

WTH.jpg

This is the actual color, not a b/w rendering.

I'm verifying cache as I write this. Don't know how this happens, but I hope I don't get it too much more.

CSX Mainline Route, my own scenario that has been tested on this machine.

Dell XPS Laptop L502X
Intel i7-2620M @2.70GHz
8GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M
Win7 Home Premium 64-bit

I'm not asking for a solution, I just thought folks here might find it amusing.

Best,
Marc

Pam just posted some similar graphics in her "Picasso" topic. I wonder if RW did a "ninja" update? Guess I should fire up the game and see if it runs OK. You may need the newest set of drivers for your video card.

With another post about... Me wondering if is a ninja update indeed.... problem only with say new RW3 engines, once RW2 engines work fine....

Thanks, Chris. I just updated the video drivers, immediately after the verify cache. Same result. It seems to hit me when I try to look at the cars I have at that area. I have six AmFleet passenger cars and I can see north of them, but when I rotate the camera towards them I get that hash. I was trying to change them to another type in RW_Tools. Maybe that did something, I don't know.

Really weird...

Well, poop. I don't get that hash, but there is not one single scenario I can play. SBHH, and have to use Task Manager to quit the game. RSC did some secret update, yesterday RW was fine. !*don-know!*

Hi Chris! I just played (or tested) some scenarios with RW2 locomotives, no problem at all! What engines are used by scenarios you tried?!

Amfleet cars??
I had a genesis with Amfleet cars sitting just two rails over. Looking at them was what caused my issues as well.. Its an identical problem ( but my hash is classier ::lol:: )..
All i can say is Hmmmmmm..
On the other hand, I road in those cars from connecticut outhere to oregon, and truth told, that has is beautifully representative of exactly what happened to my life after i got here.. Sometimes, poetry isnt so pretty.. ::chuckles::
Oh well..
Mannu?? have you heard of anything like this happening?? RSC Derek?? RSC-anyone??

Well, I'm glad that I'm not the only one. But I'm equally unhappy that it seems to be more widespread. Would a "ninja update" change the version? I show 11.7b.

My scenarios start up at least, and since the point I'm having problems with are more than an hour deep into the activity it'll take me a while to see if actually running the scenario gives me the same problem. I'll post my results.

Thanks,
M.

Well, now THIS is frustrating! **!!bang!!**

I started up my own scenario and it started normally, but about 1/2 hour in as I was climbing a slight grade (about 0.7%) heading East out of East Brunswick near the coal mine I got the hash. At this time there are no other trains or loose consists around me, so I'm at a loss at this point. !*hp*! This time after a few seconds of varying hash it went totally black and I had to use the Task Manager to get out! !*not-ok*! I used the "Log off" option so I didn't have to re-start the whole machine and that worked OK. Something is definitely wrong with RW! I'm verifying cache again, just because. Maybe word got back to RSC (maybe not...).

Hope springs eternal!

Best,
M.

Well, is this case you may be experiencing another sort of problems: overheating of mother board or video card, needing to clean inside the case etc...

Fraser, I think Doc may be right. It could be the video card either overheating, or maybe failing. Probably a good idea to take of the side cover and have a look at how much dust is inside. I clean my PC every 6 months. Having two cats makes it necessary.

As for all the darn "SBHH" stuff I was having, it magically fixed itself. There are a few legacy RW2 scenarios that still won't run, but that's to be expected. As for which scenarios they were, good grief. I think I have about 200 scenarios installed. I have no idea which ones didn't work yesterday. !*don-know!*

Well, I may have found the answer! There is one car I was using in a scenario that I'm building that may have become corrupted. It's the "Amfleet AmCoach" car located at:

RSC\NorthEastCorridor\railvehicles\passenger\amfleet\amcoach\amcoach.bin

Since this is a Steam DLC component (NEC) I'm curious as to why it doesn't update with a verify cache. I'll try renaming it and see if it updates then.

If I replace this car with anything, the scenario runs just fine and the editor has no problems. I needed to replace them through RW_Tools as I couldn't see them in the editor directly due to the hash. I replaced it with the Amtrak Superliner as this car is used in the prototype MARC commuter runs. In the scenario, the AI MARC train leaves Union Station, reverses into the wye going toward the Amtrak yard, then proceeds forward stopping at several stations eventually stopping at Metropolitan Grove Track 1. Depending on the Player Train's speed it may be required to stop just west of Silver Spring MARC station to allow the MARC to pass before crossing over to the Eastbound track to finish the route.

As far as the component temperatures are concerned, I use SpeedFan to monitor my internal temps and the laptop does run a little hot but the GPU is currently at 55°C (135°F), not too bad overall. On my gamer desktop, the GPU runs about 65° C (153°F) full tilt. Good suggestions to check, though. *!!thnx!!*

Happy camper!! !*YAAA*!

Gotta get back to my SD40-2s, though, but only after I prep the roast chicken for tonight's supper. Gonna make a full run to see if my AI timings are to my satisfaction.

I'll post results here.

Best,
Marc

Well, color me chastised! *!embar*!

I ran the scenario with the exchanged cars and about 1/2 hour in I got the hash again! *!twisted!* Just before that I ran one of Gandy Dancer's NEPA Division scenarios all the way to completion with no issues. This time though I actually got the dreaded BSOD! Gotta try it on a different machine now to see if I can isolate a machine problem with the laptop. It's what I use to develop my creations, though. That would stink... !*not-ok*!

I'm also going to reload the route (CSX Mainline) to see if that helps.

As the old song goes:

I wont let unhappiness enter the picture on my end. There's definitely an issue, but issues can be resolved. If i can contribute to the resolution in any way, then i'm happy. Till then, its just another challenge to overcome :)..

Afraid i've been so involved with geting my own development back into motion that i havent teried any other routes orr scenarios. So far. it only happens on the one scenario on my route where there is an amtrak train. I'll run more tests over the next few days with other routes and see what we can get..
