3DCrafter 9.1.1 B 1264 What I learned

Unread postby sleepyto » Wed Apr 18, 2012 10:15 pm

My 2cents worth.

My System:
Windows7 Ultimate Service Pack 1
Intel Core i7 cpu 860 @2.8 GHZ with turbo boost to 3.6 Ghz
16GB Memory
64 Bit OS on 120GB SSD. More than 3TB extra storage.

After quite a few hours trying to get Version 9.1.1 Build 1264 to work on my system this is what works for me.
First of all I had version 9.1 build 1405 installed and it worked with no problem. When I doubled clicked on the .exe file (Not using shortcut) the program went straight to running up. Not asking for UAC permission.

Next I deleted version 9.1 cleared the register and installed version 9.1.1 build 1264. When I went to the .exe file the program then asked for UAC permission. After saying yes the program went to the splash screen and stayed at loading. I then went into the CONTROL PANEL and changed the User account Setting to NEVER NOTIFY, restarted computer, double clicked the .exe file and wa la it worked.

In the description of never notify it mentions certification to work with Windows 7. Is 9.1 certified and 9.1.1 not. Changing the UAC settings on the .exe file when right clicking had no effect. The only way I could get it to run was changing the UAC setting in the Control Panel to NEVER NOTIFY .

My question is why did version 9.1.1 ask for UAC and version 9.1 did not. I've asked this question at the Amabilis site but no response as of yet.

Anyway this is what worked for me. Hope it helps someone or at least gets them started in the right direction.

Good Luck
John

This is strange. I have 9.1.1 and it does not ask for elevation. Can you look for a file called 3DCrafter.exe.manifest in your "C:\Program Files (x86)\3DCrafter 9" folder, open it in notepad and tell me what you see?

What I was hoping to see in your manifest was a line with 'requestedexecutionlevel'. But it looks just like mine.

As for changing the UAC level in the control panel for your system to Never Notify, is dangerous. You are basically letting any application run on your machine at any user level (including admin) without you even knowing. Let me think on this a bit longer, perhaps there is a way to fix this for v9.1.1.

Yes I know it is dangerous, but as I am the only one using this computer I can pretty much control some of the dangers I HOPE.

I was hoping to hear from the Amabilis site but they haven't even approved my post on their website. Very frustrating to say the least.

Looking forward to see what you might be able to come up with.

They are extremely slow to approve new posts.

There maybe a trick to getting into Amabilis. I had to post three times before I was magically and quite silently indoctrinated. I remember seeing a setting in phpBB that did something like this.

I've also posted three times but still no response. I mad a mistake in the build of 9.1. It was build 1091 not 1405

Then you are at their mercy. I had to wait a few weeks to get "inside".

The only setting I know of is the Newly registered members settings, which - in affect - allows the admin to screen new members posts before they go public, but the screening process is up to the admin, not the phpBB code.

You know. I think I was thinking of the PM option.

I tried to do a PM but I got a message that I had not participated enough to write a PM.

For a site that charges 70 bucks for a product they are not very customer friendly. Very Upset with them.

That was the feature I was thinking of. I think we do the same thing here.

Yes, but that also makes them spammer-unfriendly, which is a Good Thing.
Just write a few posts until you reach the treshold.

Newly registered members can not use the PM system, or contact other members via email through the forum, until they have at least one post (adjustable in the admin area. I figured one post was good enough, but default setting is 3), which then changes their status from newly registered to regular member.

This is all explained in the Rules & Guidelines topic.
