Changing/Cloning Tutorials

Unread postby maxsdad » Thu Apr 12, 2012 8:17 pm

Hello All:

I would like to change the engine in the Tutorial, "Introduction to the Horseshoe Curve". I downloaded RW Tools and Don's video on how to change an engine, but I don't see the tutorial in the Horseshoe curve section. Does anyone know where it is? I do see an entry named "paused" or something like that along with all the scenarios(standard, career and free roam) but I don't want to touch that without knowing if it is the tutorial on not. It is the last line in with the free roam scenarios.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Maxsdad,

That's the "Paused", indeed. Here goes a tutorial to change it.

1- Open the Select Route and Scenario window (Scenarios | Edit scenario).
2- Select Paused and click on Edit Selected Scenario (in my machine it takes a lot of time to load, much more than any other type of scenario, wait).
On Scenario Editor window:
3- Delete the whole name of scenario (there is a hidden character that don't allow you to save if you don't delete the original name) on Display Name, and then fill with the name you want.
4- Click in the buttom Clone Scenario with new Name, in the next pop up window (about language) click Yes. You'll be back to the Select Route and Scenario window, close this window and launch it again (Scenarios | Edit Scenarios).
On Select Route and Scenario window:
5- You'll see a new scenario also named Paused. The original tutorial scenario is the 1649f8ba-..... The other is your brand new "tutorial" scenario. Edit this scenario (click on Edit Selected Scenario).
On Scenario Editor window:
6- Select the engine 8576 on Consists list. Select any "HSC EMD GP7" on Selected Consist. Select the new engine you want to use on Available Stock. Finally, click on buttom Swap all Identical (recommended, so you'll swap all GP-7 of that consist, the lead engine is in the bottom of list) and save.

In game | Start Screen click on Tutorials (there will be now the world "new", in red) and play your tutorial.

I hope you appreciate *!!wink!!* !*salute*!

Oooops! *!embar*! !!**sorry**!! the tutorial on post above doesn't work! The new tutorial scenario doesn't have the "movie" screens etc.

So I'll try editing directly the scenario bin file and post on here tomorrow. !!**sorry**!!

Hi Maxsdad,

I tried, as I usually do for standart or freeroam scenarios, editing directly the scenario bins files to swap at least the lead engine (the Player train) but for some reason which I don't know yet it didn't work also. Like career scnearios, maybe tutorial scenarios have another reference to used engines and may have another file (maybe a lua?) making ineffective the changes I did so far (as I use to do). At (my, here's -3UTC) night I'll try again, and post something...

Cheers,
Doc.

Doc:

I really appreciate you doing this for me, but if it can't be done than don't worry about it. I don't want to take you from doing other things that I'm sure you have to do.

Maxsdad,

I appreciate your words, among the many things I have to do I also include help others and overcome a challenge. So far tutorial scenario's secrets will remaining unrevealed, the little time I reserved for it is over. I tried a bit more unsuccesfully... maybe some day.

Cya around,
