I can't really tell what your problem is as the syntax you have posted may not be correct it should be C:\Program Files (x86) (Note the space and the backslash), so if windows is recording the error as posted there may be something wrong with the paths to the railworks folder. :D
Firstly I would run sfc /scannow as here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833 this will fix any corruption in the system files.
What would be useful would be your pc specs, eg., cpu, RAM, mobo, graphics card, OS 32/64-bit with Service Packs and the actual path to your RailWorksProc2.exe file?
For example mine is: C:\RAILWAY Virtual\STEAM\steamapps\common\railworks\RailWorksProc2.exe.
Try the "fix" above and then we can go from there!
Good luck

really, when does it end, it's one thing after another, i tried several times putting in the (x86) and so on, running a simulation shouldn't be this difficult, i'm sorry, but unless your a computer wizard, it's a real challenge. lucky for me i have a son, who can straighten it all out for me. except he's 1200 miles away right now. back to MSTS for awhile

Try one more thing. I ran into a similar problem awhile back when I started up RW while Steam was trying to update the EXE file. The end result was that it was blown away. Have Steam verify your file cache:

on a side note , it doesnt matter how far a person is away from you. there is a program available that they can access your system . http://www.teamviewer.com both of you download it, share the details it gives and he can sort it from his end . I have used this program many times for different projects with people from Australia, Canada, US and here in the Uk. Depending on your net connection and resources running on both systems will decide how smooth the connection runs.
