JCornell GP38 Not Working

Unread postby gkbaldwin » Mon Feb 13, 2012 6:14 pm

Hi all;

I have a clean install of TS2012 with all routes and rolling stock working fine. I am starting to load previous (Rw2 or earlier) rolling stock and wouldn’t you know it the first one I loaded .which is the original Justin Cornell GP38-2 (KRS file) from Trainsim.com.

I loaded the .rpk file using TS2012 package loader and then did a manual loading by using Winrar to uncomplied the .rpk file.

I used the TestTrak route and RWtools to build a consist to test the GP38 on the test trak in a free roam scenario.

The GP38 unit does show up, but as soon as I click on the unit the program freezes and I get the "Something bad happen in your program, would you like to save a diagnostic" I have tried this with TSX on and TSX off, getting the same results.

Has anyone else got Justin's GP38 to work in the latest TS2012? Is there a more recent build of JCornell BNSF1 GP38-2?

There are a lot of repaints based on this model including one done in RW3, yet without the base model working all other are in jeopardy.

Has anypne else gotten JCornell original GP38-2 to work in the latest TS2012 release?

Any help or suggestions are much appreicated.

That is a puzzlement. I tried copying a copy of JCornell BNSF-1 from a previous backup I have and I still get the same results. In free roam as soon as I click on the unit it freezes and I get the "something bad has happen" message.

This leads me to a belief that someting is not compatible or something is missing that is required with the current TS2012 release. Then again you say that the unit is working for you, so that doesn't make since.

Are you using the BNSF38.zip file that is at Trainsim.com dated 08-28-2008?

Did you also install the GP38-2_dependencies file?

Yes, I did load the dependency files (dated 4/17/2011), but the results were the same. No happiness in Mudville *!sad!*

Thank you, Samwolf for the new files.

It turns out that the scenario I duplicated from the Test Trak route to use as my tester scenario had become corrupted (I have no idea how).

I recreated a new test scenario using again the test Trak route and now the Justin Cornell GP38-2 is working fine (whew)! :D

Thanks everyone for your help.

So new information. All works fine with a single unit. I added lights and driver and using my test scenario the unit displays fine with lights working.

Now if I add a second unit (two locomotives) that is where the issue occurs. The two units display, but when I click on the lead unit I get the freeze and "something bad has happen " error.

Has anyone run a consist of two or more GP38-2 lashed up in the lead? A single unit runs fine, but lashing two together for some reason causes the program to hang.

Hi Papaxpress;

Yes, you are right. It must be the test scenario doesn't like two units. I tried another free roam scenario where it had two units together. I swapped them with the GP38's and all worked fine.

In my test scenario it originally only showed a single unit. Using RW_tool scenario editor I would duplicate the single unit and save. This has worked with all the other default power, but for some reason when I duplicate the GP38 and the go to the free roam, the single unit displays and works fine, but when diplaying two units and once I click on the lead unit the program freezes. So it has to do with the test scenario I am using. Now I know.

Thanks everyone, Gerry
