Something I learned running the Splitter on Cajon

This was in a post that got lost with all the server issues on Sunday.

I was running the Splitter scenario and encountered a red as I approached Victorville for the set out. Hitting 'tab' would not get me by the signal, so I went into the 2D map and started looking for approaching trains and found none. Then I started checking switches in Victorville yards and found one the was set opposed to my route. Once I had reset this switch I got a restricting signal and was able to move into the yard. I encountered this again at Ora Grande yard as I approached there with the empty hoppers. Again the 2D map showed me that there was a switch set opposed to the route I needed to take and once reset I got the restricting which allowed me to complete the scenario. There have been other scenarios that I would get reds which could not be explained and I am going to rerun them now knowing about the switches.

That signal at Victorville (and many others in BSB route like the track 1 junction Mojave Out at Barstow, and the westbound track 2 approaching Oro Grande) are known by being defective, even with no other train in the whole route but Player Train. You hit on the nail, the problems are caused by junctions anywhere close to the signals. So, the scenario designer have many choices to run around the problem, or simply instruct the user to "uncheck" the "Exit on SPAD" box in Options - Gameplay Screen. Despite of any scenario especial instruction about, I always leave unchecked the "Exit on SPAD", once that's not a realistc feature, anyway. As well, it saves me from wasting time digging and clicking blue circles in Map View... *!!wink!!*

I have learned a long time ago to never presume the points (switches) are set in my favor. I will always check my route with the 2D map (which by the way is just freaking awful to use).

I have a hard time telling apart the gray and purple colors.
What's wrong with bright green?

I made sure that "exit on SPAD" was not checked from the very beginning, but I still do not pass red signals without permission, so finding the problem switch is necessary for me. Now that I know this is an issue in RW I will always look at the 2D map first if I am facing a red.

Well, that's new and weird to me. I have so far over than 2K hours running RS/RW with "Exit on SPAD" unchecked and never had game finished due to passed a red. Of course, in this case, you need to check the blue path ahead out of caution, otherwise you may (not always) hit a junction against and bye bye... what signal are you having problem? how much time was elapsed till there? I may run it to check, if close to start... it's a long scenario (2 hours long I guess).

Cheers.

Unchecking "exit on SPAD" will not mean you don't derail at a point switched against you. Never has for me anyways. And that dumb 2D map is so darn hard to use. I can usually see the blue (or purple) line change at the switch when I change it. Just have to scroll around and drag the map around to make sure your points are set right. One reason I dislike shunting. All the track names are bunched up and so hard to read. Pffffftttttt. !**duh*!!

Go over and get Pike's 2D map revision. It makes it much easier to see.

Good Morning:

Maybe a little help for the senior in the crowd. Where is over and what is the name of the file and will it work with RS3?

Thanks for the help.
