Trouble verifying cache

Unread postby USRailFan » Sat Nov 26, 2011 1:03 pm

Is anyone able to successfully verify cache just now? Here it either seems to stop at once with 'all files successfully validated' or go on to about 4-5 % and then terminate with the same message

Could be due to Steam's servers being hammered due to the current sales going on and a massive spike with many people trying to download their newly bought games.
Perhaps try in a few days after the sales are over, or try on "off peak" hours, or maybe try switching to a different download-region.

I've tried virtually every server on the list, I've tried early in the morning, in the middle of the night, any thinkable time. I've even done a full reformat and reinstall. My other Steam games installed just fine, but TS2012 _still_ displays the bloody "servers are too busy" message!!!!!!

Try this; Close Steam, navigate to your folder of where you have Steam installed, find the filed named "ClientRegistry.blob" and rename it to something like "ClientRegistry.blob.OLD". Launch Steam, and this file should automatically be recreated. After Steam is fully launched, try doing your "Verify" of TS2012 and hopefully it will work.

I have done that about 10 times. Plus tried just about every server available. I even did a complete reformat and reinstall. My other Steam based games installed just fine, but TS2012 always reports 'steam servers are currently too busy'. Guess it is time to contact the EU Commission on Trading Standards to get a refund for the 100s of € I've spent on Railworks and its DLC if they don't get this sorted.

The current Autumn Sale on Steam is due to end on Nov.28th I believe.
Try after that, and see if the "steam servers are too busy" problems clears up for you then.

If the problem still persists after that, then you're probably best to contact Steam-Support.

Good luck.

As I said - ALL OTHER GAMES I HAVE PURCHASED VIA STEAM WORK JUST FINE!!!!!!!
I repeat: THE ONLY GAME CAUSING PROBLEMS IS TS2012!!!!!! So this is definately NOT a "steam-wide" issue!!!

Bummer.
Well, one other suggestion I might throw at you;

Go into your "Steamapps" folder, and you'll find a list of files with a ".ncf" extension.

Find all of these files, that has "railworks" as part of it's name, and temporarily move them all to some location outside of this folder.

Now try starting Steam and seeing if your RailWorks will properly update or Verify.

If not, you might consider reinstalling or relocating Steam:

Other than that, I'm running out of ideas to suggest other than to contact Steam-Support and see if they can help.

As I said - I did a full system reinstall, I don't have any .ncf files

See above.

Have already done so. Not exactly keeping my fingers crossed though - last time the same issue cropped up a couple of months ago I didn't get a single relevant reply out of them, and was even accused of piracy (now how I'd have been able to have Railworks and all the DLC attached to my account if I really had pirated it is of course an interesting speculation in itself...). Luckily at that time there were several other people reporting the same, so RS.com in the end intervened themselves and got it sorted...

I verified my RW files this morning, it went fine. Contact Steam, and yes, it will take time.

No need to get fussy with Don, darn it, he's just been trying to help! He doesn't work for RSC or Steam. Calm down. Not his fault. Jeese. !!bang!!

To add to what arizonachris said, typing on all capitols is considered shouting in forum-speak and is also looked upon as being rude in most instances.
It's actually better, if you want to emphasize something, to type in normal case, but bold the text, or highlight it in a different color, or a combination of the two.

No need being rude to someone trying to help. I don't think the admin here likes rude people. *!!wink!!*

Hawk,

I noticed the link to the Swindel Family on your signature. Are you by chance related to an Alan Swindel who grew up in Brundidge, AL? He would be about 57-58. Alan was one of my best friends growing up and I haven't heard from him in years.

To the best of my knowledge I'm not related to him. There's actually a lot of Swindells out there that I'm not related to, at least that we can determine through the family lineage dating back to the late 1700's.
