TS12 shaders crash RW2

Unread postby Toripony » Mon Oct 10, 2011 8:10 pm

Most folks can ignore this post but for those of us who are still running RW2 for one reason or another, I thought I would share this experience... that any of the new repaints/assets that use the new shaders in TS12 will crash RW2 if you try to use them. Pretty obvious, but I didn't think of it until after I downloaded some new locos and installed them to an RW2 development environment. So, maybe this post will save someone else a restart, lol. Guess that means my scenario writing is going to move to the new product sooner than I thought.

If it's just because they're missing, I thought there was some way of installing new shaders into older versions - people do it with KRS,I'm pretty sure. I've never had to do it myself so I don't know the procedure but I thought it was literally just copying some files. Not sure quite how badly they'll fail to work properly, might be hilarious...

Based on what Tori said, and the fact that some models and rollingstock may not display or function properly in RW3 if they were created in RW2, I am thinking about splitting the File Library up into 2 sections. An RW2 section and a TS 2012 section.

Does this sound like a feasible idea?

That sounds like a wonderful idea. It will be much easier to keep track of everything that way.

At this stage and the number of repaints of default stock that have been done I feel you have no choice but to do so Hawk.....unless you can " easily " note the existing download display with a RW2 or TS2012 repaint.
Hopefully, all repainters will eventually " fix " their rolling stock and things will settle down......I am doing so to my repaints to get them up to RW3 default standard.
We all know RSC tried to make the transition to TSX as smooth as possible and no doubt were not expecting some of the disastrous outcomes that have occurred. As by the three ( I think ) update fixes so far I believe they are endeavoring to get it sorted ASAP and results I believe are starting to show with some of the forum discussions.
I have been looking into the F7, ES44AC & SD40-2 TSX updates so far....the F7 & ES44AC conversion from RW2 to RW3 not a serious issue at all ( except the wiper on the F7 ).....the SD40-2, especially the Black which I suspect many repainted is a whole new deal and a lot more involved in converting correctly and getting rid of the old files.

!*cheers*!

Well, I am doing this on new files added where the uploader says they're TS 2012 optimized.

I still think it might be a good idea to split the library up. I've already started on the task and I'm about half done, even though I've been working on it for a few of days already, although not as aggressively as I intend to start doing. *!greengrin!*
