GP38 - Destroyer of frame rates

I tried running the Cornell GP38 in RW3 today and I was getting very poor frame rates. I ran the GP9 on the same route and had no issues. The GP38 ran fine in RW2, and I'm running RW3 with TSX off since my computer can't handle it. Does anybody know what the problem might be?

Its a highly detailed asset that has always been a drag on frame rates. I used to have one sitting in the yard in Test Trak, and whenever I swung the camera towards it, fps dropped, though it was still acceptable in RW2. I think it was built for the old RailSimulator program. It needs some optimization to bring it up to date.

Unless the project has been cancelled, someone stated a couple of months back the RSC would be making a GP38.

If they are working on a GP 38 pack in the same vein as the Geep 9 pack,I am thrilled. I hope they also do the different variations, dynamic,non-dynamic,plow,no plow etc,etc. I think RSC is really getting it right! I think their GP7/9 has a perfect amount of detail. I love realism,but give me a medium detail model that has high frame rates any day,over a high-poly monster that creeps. This comment is meant in general, not negative towards Justin's great models.

JointedRail has stated that they have no interest in optimizing their GP38-2 for RW3. Which is why I took it off my copy of RW.

Yes, unfortunately Jointed Rail has taken a bad attitude towards Railworks, with some excuse about the AI and the way the trains run being the reason. Dont understand that logic. When Home Depot sells you a 2x4, they dont care if you build a house or give someone a beatdown with it. Anyway, its a shame. They would make a ton of money making assets for Railworks 3.

Different strokes maybe , but I can't fault Justins geep , in fact it's just as good now as it was when released , there's no more tris in the geep as there is in most of the other loco meshes .

What kind of confuses me is that I never experienced any noticable slowdown with the GP38 in RW2, but in RW3 it's basically unplayable, when everything else gets frame rates that are almost as good as RW2.

one of them things I guess !*don-know!* .. hauled it off a dvd and dropped the rpk , my frames barely blinked . guess I'll put it back where it came from now .

Well alot has changed with the upgrade. Alot of stuff like repaints and what not no longer work. Unless they update or if you know how to manipulate files things can get kinda rough. I guess unless someone tells them about it will remain unchanged. So remember to be nice and and that if you see something say something. And as always thank you. !!*ok*!!

I can tell you that MadMike and I have spoken about updating our repaints. In Mike's case he is waiting for Britkits (aka KCJones, aka Mr Cowen), in my case I am waiting for GreatNortherner to update the RWA donationware packages.
