Hi, My game was updated to 2012 like it was supposed to, and when i went ingame, I can turn on my headlights, but they dont light up anything. Same with the rain and cab sway.

I have the game engine thing checked so..whats wrong still?

Locos that were not built with the new features (headlights and rain effects) will not show them.

Cab sway should work for everything though. Go smack into a cut of cars at 10mph and tell me it doesn't work! However the random rocking/swaying when driving on straight and level track needs to be edited into the route (for DLC or user made routes - the default routes have it).

Go load up any default scenario on Cajon pass and you'll see the goodies right away!

I cannot tell really, I just bought a new computer this year in January. And the game goes slower than a snail still on low settings. I would basically just love the headlights out of it and rain effect. Any ideas how I can make it run smooth? I have very very limited money, kinda out of the question to buy a new computer. I would really enjoy being able to create more in my route, but at that time, it would take me about 2 hours to put in a building set.

!*hp*! !*hp*!

What are your specs? There might be a much cheaper upgrade to make TS2012 run than a whole new machine.

Eh, its probably best to not even try to turn that into a gaming computer.

The GPU and CPU both need to be replaced, which may or may not require a new motherboard. The 250u is a budget processor, so the PSU is probably only 250W or so, and likely doesn't have any free PCI-E 4 or 6 pin connectors, which means that needs to be replaced in order to put a decent GPU in. On top of that, eMachines, and all OEMs in general, tend to use relatively small mid-tower cases which limits the physical size of any GPU you can put in. You likely have a max length of 7-9", which precludes anything above a mid-range card, which will probably cost almost as much as that whole computer. We sold a similar one last winter for ~$250.

Unfortunately, I think your best bet is to save whatever you can for a bit and buy a new machine down the road.

Yeah, that is a very basic web browsing/email desktop, not really capable of gaming at all. Time to upgrade. :/

FWIW, my parents just bought a Dell with a Core i3 @ 3.1 ghz, 6gb DDR3 and 1tb HD for $359. Just add your video card of choice ($160 for something really nice) and you're golden for very little money (relatively).

THere isn't anything cheaper like a new graphics card or something that will make the game run smooth? Like I said, I didn't buy this one too long ago to play Railworks 2..Now I need a new one to play Railworks 3?

Please don't take offense, but when you buy the bare minimum for something that's been released one year, the next thing that comes along will mean the bare minimum you bought previously isn't up to snuff anymore. If you buy a stronger machine it will last through a few iterations of product at least.

The CPU specs for example are bare minimum for RW/RW2. RW3 requires even more power.

You might be able to throw a graphics card in there, but as mentioned above, all of your other components will at the very least hold you back from seeing any performance gains, and at worst will not even allow an upgrade due to a small form factor case, minimal power supply numbers, etc.

I used to sell PCs for a living and I always told my customers that they could spend a small amount of money and meet their needs in the present, but in a year or two they might be wishing they had just spent a couple hundred extra or whatever and been much happier in the long run. I didn't make commission on sales or anything, I just wanted my customers to be happy and get what they really needed. They were always happy when I saw them a year or two later, coming in to buy a second PC from me.

Of course I realize sometimes you can't afford more than a low-end PC, but that also means you can't relish in the latest and greatest software. :(

Well my brother put in a new graphics card, it runs well. But I seem to only get the effect on Canjon Pass route. How to you enable the effects on costume routes and stuff? And can you adjust the speed of the wipers?

Not to spam, but does anyone know if you can adjust speed of the wipers and how far the lights shine?

As far as I understand, only certain routes and locomotives will have the enhanced rain effects. No, can't change wiper speed. Maybe on of the others like Derek can tell you how to add rain to a custom install. RSC could never possibly deal with all the custom third party stuff, so they didn't try. I don't blame them either.
