JCornell GP38 and Krellnut GP38-2 Sound Pack

Unread postby Machinist » Tue Jul 19, 2011 6:45 pm

Hi there,

I installed "Default GP38-2 Justin Cornell+dependencies" (from http://s1.zetaboards.com/DigiRails_Foru ... m/1666734/). It worked fine, really fine, very nice sounds.

Then I tried to replace sounds with "GP38_Sound_Pack.zip" (from RWA File Library) and also with "gp38soundpack.zip" (from TrainSim.com). Both zip packs look like the same, at least hearing each "wav" file inside them the wave files sound equal.

But after 3 install and reinstalls the loco's sounds are not the same of wave files of Sound Pack. In fact they sound close to a flying soucer taking off. LOL (sorry). It's like a turbo metalic and high frequence sound echoing inside a cavern enviroment.

I noticed that the original JCornell sounds files are "dav" files, and the new ones are "wav" files. I didn't delete anything in original folders, just added the new files following the instructions in Krellnut's "Read Me.txt". May be a problem after update patch of Feb2011?

Thanks for any help,
Lisboa.

Can you post a video so we can hear the problem sounds. This could be an issue with your sound card. Something similar happened to me and I had to upgrade my card.

I had this problem too a while back. I don't remember for sure how I solved it, but I think I had forgotten to install one of the files in the sound pack.

Ok, for now, I'll see how to record a sound file (or video). I dont' know yet how to do this, and will try to upload or post it.... !*don-know!*

But I can say that all others locos (tested 10 again) are sounding normally, as usual. And also that I did a complete 3 times installs, therefore I am sure that I didn't forget to copy&paste any needed sound file.

I have a Sound Blaster Gamer 5.1 (passing through Raildriver console, to get that ultimate sensitive low frequence feedback !*drool*! ) . Maybe a problem with those sounds (beyond being "wav" files, they can have especial recording ranges) with my sound card, not a sound card problem.... But why does it works with all other locos (with "dav" files?).

And also, I can perfectly hear the excelent "wav" Krellnut files in WMP, for ex, but they aren't working fine inside (while playing) the game, it means is not a sound card problem.

I"ll perform a new (4th) full installation, in 2 steps (first only JC loco, and then changing to Krellnut files), and try to post further.

Tnx for now.

Well,

I performed 2 more installs and problem is the same. My sound card (SB Gamer 5.1) is old now a days, and I may consider to buy another new X-Fi card (as happened with Heavy Chevy). I guess (and hope) the new X-Fi includes all previous EAX effects and more...

What I am sure, after 5 hours long trying to install JC e Krellnut packs, is:
a) hearing with more attention, even original JC's sounds are not sounding as good as I said previously. In fact, it seems that many medium and low frequence sounds are not being reproduced, the general sound is a bit muffled, I can't hear the engine details and nuances. May this means that my sound card is not good enough for these very especial and good sounds?;
b) installing Krellnut sound, things becomes worst, I can hear mostly only high frequence sounds (this is why sounds like a flying socer). May be, again, poor sound card quality?;
c) I did all tests also with the onboard sound system, this one a I knew is poorer then Sound Blaster, and results were the same, not good also as expected;
d) a question is nagging me: why can I hear each one of "wav" sounds of Krellnut perfectly, with all details, when playing them out of game using Windows Media Player, but when playing the game the same sounds are muffled? Isn't that a problem of game engine handling the "wav" sound files? A script problem with actual build of RW2? JC loco and Krelnut sounds scrpits were launched in Nov/2010, and the actual RW2 patch is Feb/2011? May be that?

Cheers,
Lisboa.

Ps.: sorry, but I don't know how to record a video and post it, let it be....
