Autonumbering

Unread postby buzz456 » Sat Jul 16, 2011 5:13 pm

I am working on DTM GP30 in KCS paint. I am trying to get red numbers on the cab side and white numbers in the number boards. Is this possible and what the heck is it looking at? I am getting numbers that have nothing to do with my model. !!det!! Other than that it's all coming along.

You can either Alpha out the autonumbers, and paint numbers on the body texture, or, if the numbers are in the right place, just repaint the number textures.

Alex,
You answered half my question. I am missing something on where it's looking. It's using the numbers from somewhere else because I changed the numbers and they didn't change.

Autonumbers come from the primary named texture set in the blueprint; this will refer you to another blueprint ( bin file ) which is probably in the Textures folder. In that is a list of digits and corresponding textures that will get loaded when that digit appears in the unit number. I don't have the GP30 so I can't actually tell you what the filenames are :(

Be sure you have changed the path in the 'GP30-Numbers.bin' (or something similar, don't have it to check) making sure it points to you textures folder.

Can you ask it to look at the numbers in another engine or does it have to be all set up inside the unit? I'm about to go back to painting airplanes. At least there I understand the associations.

You mean can you reference another engine's textures from yours? sure. Simplest way is to clone that engine & only change the bits you want to change.

I feel your pain, Buzz. I know it feels like going through some kind of a labyrinth, sometimes, but dont get discouraged. This place needs more painters like you. !*cheers*!

You can reference any set of number textures from any other loco as far as I know. I've done it, so it can be done.

If you still need assistance, just pm me, and I can show you what I did.
