Problems with backups.

On a regular basis I back up my Railworks folder. Lately something has gone amiss. I can usually run TSC from the Railworks64.exe in the backup but lately, on all my backups I have missing terrain and trackage. This only happens on a few routes. Your thoughts and suggestions.

Free roam? QD? Other? And if textures are missing in one scenario have you tried other mode?

Running some tests to see what is affected. I will post more information later. Backup method that I have always used is to either c&p or drag and drop Railworks folder to my backup drive.

Could be a corrupt backup which I have had happen myself a few times for simply making the path name too long for the backup folder which you will usually get a warning for when copying files. Keep it short and sweet and all should be good. I am currently working only from backups myself prior to the recent updates, no issues here running with the 64.exe.

Hi, I'm currently also working exclusively in one of my pre-core-update backup versions of the game and all is running smoothly.

Judging by the screenshot above, my guess would be that somehow the route has "lost connection" to its assets folder(s). The route's own data seems intact as the terrain (dem) and track ribbon are still there. That blue/white grid pattern is I believe the terrain paint the game defaults to when no texturing.bin is loaded in the route.

I'd focus my investigation on the assets and their links/location -- are the asset filter records at the bottom of RouteProperties.xml intact? Is the asset folder itself intact and everything correctly placed and named (my most common mistakes are to somehow create "double folder", i.e. Assets\Assets\..., or have a typo slip in somewhere.

Cheers,
Michael

Thank you all for your input. I did another backup to a different drive and did some testing and this time TSC was playable from this drive. I think I will reformat the problematic drive and try another backup to test. Nothing has shown up in a diagnostic test for the drive so far. What is really weird is that I have been running TSC off of this drive and all was well until I made a backup just after the update. Then all existing (4) backups were corrupted as well as the new backup.
