RW2 will not start

Unread postby BLingley » Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:19 pm

About 4 or 5 weeks ago, RW2 suddenly stopped working. I reported the incident to Steam and they told me to verify the cache files etc., clear blueprint cache and finally delete local content, re-download and re-install. I did all this, serveral times, to no avail. Steam advised me to contact Railworks tech support, which I did, received a Work Order #10900, & a tech, Jose Cruz. All attempts to get an update on the w/o netted me nothiing but an email reply saying that only the original inquirer could get an update. I have sent numerous emails to Railworks tech support, got other w/o's, only to have them cancelled moments later, by Railworks. I have not received a single reply from tech support, and hence have not been able to run RW2 for over a month.

If I sound frustrated, I am!!! I have probably not given anyone enough information to even attempt to help me find a solution, but please let me know what you might need to know and I will gladly provide the info.

Thank you in advance for any assistance, anyone can give me, in this matter.

Regards,

Bruce !*hp*!

Do you have any other Steam games that this is happening to, or is it just Railworks? A while back I had a similar issue that killed all my steam games and couldn't be fixed even after deleting and reinstalling both the games and Steam itself. I don't remember for sure how I fixed it; I'll take a look and get back to you.

Try this. Copy your "steamapps" folder to another place on your hard drive. That contains all your Steam games. Now, take a deep breath. Uninstall Steam. All of it. Use CCleaner to get rid of all the leftover "bits" http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/

Now, reinstalle the Steam client. Paste the "steamapps" folder back over. That should work (I hope, fingers crossed)

Can you please describe what happens exactly?
E.g. Does the Railworkslauncher appear?

I also have Ship Simulator Extremes on Steam, but it is running just fine. It is only RW2 that I am having the problem with.

The RW launcher appears fine, but when I click on the start button, NOTHING happens. I think I remember seeing a file with "........proc_2" or some such name running after I clicked on start, when RW2 was working properly.

Check the settings tab in the launcher. Are all values right? Test your settings.

Do you have the latest driver for your graphics card? If not, update it.

You can also try to delete the steam client registry which sometimes causes problems: Programs/Steam, delete the ClientRegistry.blob and launch Steam.

You said you already did verify the integrity of game cache? - Have you tried to do this several times?

Delete all local data of Railworks through Steam and then redownload everything.
