Unusual Sound Issue

Unread postby steve_the_slim » Sun May 29, 2011 9:51 pm

A while back after installing a new sound set for the SD40-2, I started having an issue where occasionally the engine sound in the cab suddenly turned into what I can best describe as an incredibly loud roar. This would occur spontaneously, last for a few minutes, then go away. I thought the issue was a bug in the custom sounds, and since it only happened occasionally I tolerated it. Most of the diesel locomotives I've been driving recently were freeware diesels using the same sounds as the SD40 and thus I was was not surprised when I ran into the same bug in these diesels (I have yet to experience it in a steamer or Justin Cornell's GP38). However, when I installed the GP9 I started getting the issue in that locomotive too, and it has started happening much more often and for a longer duration, so the bug obviously isn't isolated to the SD40 sounds. Has anyone else encountered this, and does anyone know how to fix it?

I have a similar problem, i useto have the GEVO pack for the ES44's and when i had one of those running in a route i would have a LOUD roar inside the cab of ANY loco, except for the ES44. removed the file and installed only the second last update, not the lattest and boom, problem solved. !*don-know!*

Oh, glad I'm not alone in that! also glad there is apparently a fix. It sounds like you've got your head in an aircon unit to me...

That's interesting. Now that I think about it, it does tend to happen on the Barstow-San Bernadino and Castle Rock routes, which usually have ES44s on them somewhere in most scenarios. Which file do I need to remove to fix it?

Actually, v2.0 of the GEVO Pack is in development as I type. This problem is related to the Idle sound (that loud noise you hear), as well as all the other interior engine sounds, were not set up to have realistic sound LOD like the exterior sounds do. Therefore, they are able to be heard from up to 7 and a half miles away from the inside of any engine within this radius. Beta testing would have sorted this out, but I had none. For v2.0, would anyone like to? Another feature is to not have the need for the Dash 9 pack installed. I have finally figured out how to loop single file sounds (like air releases, compressor, etc.) and I'm on the road to completion, beta testing, fixes, then release. This should be the last update. *!rolleyes!*
They exist everywhere. You may not see them, but they're there. Awww yeeeaaaahhhh, 20% Cooler! /)
