There are two files stored in the Contents Routes folder and they are labeled ConsistTemplates.bin and ConsistTemplates.xml. You can use Serz.exe to open the bin file and Notepad to open the xml file. The bin file contains the Consist.

You will find QD consist files are stored in Preload folders under Railworks /Assets (not Contents Routes).
If you do a file search for "preload" under Assets you will find dozens of preload folders listed under the individual developers folders.

An example of the path to a QD consist file is
Railworks>Assets>G-Trax>MaineMaritime>Preload>GP40 MEC + 18 Mixed Frt.bin

Thanks for the clarification and correct info that I now see. I was making a QD consist and was looking for the location of that file. I stumbled across the ConsistTemplates.bin folder in the main Routes folder, opened it up using Serz and found text listing the loco and the cars that I had selected, so I thought this was where the file was located. I have since modified the route of the original QD that I made but can not find the Asset folder of the creator Michael Stephan (Pennsylvania Steam) to check the Preload folder. Do you know what listing his Assets would be under?

I just looked in my main RW folder and I see there is an empty Preload folder there. It is possible, ( I can't totally remember), that I added that at some point way in the past. Is that folder part of the RW directory of main folders? Should it be there?

So, what are the ConsistTemplates folders that I initially found in the Routes folder? Just trying to learn the in's, out's and why's of TS. :D

OK, I looked in both of those folders and did not find a Preload folder under Great Northerner. I did find a Preload folder under VNHRR/Springfield but no sub folder identifying the DL-109 and 11 Pullman coaches I used in the QD, placed on Pennsylvania Steam. I returned to the Contents/Routes folder and found the QD under the ConsistTemplates.bin folder which I have attached in XML form. So now I don't know what to believe. I hope somebody can clarify this.

Try this.
Create a new QD consist using the QD consist editor in the game. Make a note of the date and time also the name of the loco and no of wagons.
Then in your windows file manager, open the Railworks Assets folder. In the search box type "preload".
In the search results look for the preload folder with the latest date/time stamp. The preload folder you just modified, should be at the top of the list.
Open this folder and you should see the .bin file for the consist you just created. Now you know where that one is stored.

Having said that, there is no reason to know that location, apart from curiosity, because you would always use the QD consist editor in the game (or TS Tools) to create / modify / delete the consist.
There is no need to mess with these .bin or .xml files in a text editor

The non-QD consists which you create using Build /scenario in the game for Career, Standard or Freeroam scenarios are stored in the ConsistTemplates.bin file under Content /Routes. Again you can check this by creating a consist in a standard scenario and checking that the ConsistTemplates.bin file does get updated with details of the new consist. Consists in this location can be used in any non-QD scenario on any route.

That's the best of my understanding. Hope this clarifies things.
