Uktrainsim RS-RW Export Package???

Unread postby jpetersjr » Thu May 19, 2011 10:46 am

How do you install the RS RW export package for Blender.

Just got it and can't figure out how to install it. It says to copy into some folder that says scripts, but there is no script folder?

I'm assuming you're referring to the 'Bigex' exporter.

From the Bigex Manual:

"Under Windows there are two possibilities. Depending on which option was chosen when installing Blender, the Blender scripts are in different folders.
In case the choice was "Install Blender for all users" this script folder (is) used:

<Windows installation drive>:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\
Blender Foundation\Blender\.blender\scripts\

E.g.: C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Blender Foundation\
Blender\.blender\scripts\"

If this is how you installed Blender, then some of these folders are hidden. To unhide them do the following:
1. On C: drive open 'Documents and Settings'.
2. Click on 'Tools' on the top menu bar.
3. Click 'Folder Options'.
4. Click 'View'.
5. Scroll down to 'Hidden files and folders' and click 'Show hidden files, folders and drives'.

Now when you click on your username in 'Documents and Settings', you'll see a number of previously hidden folders, one of them being 'Application Data'. Open it to find
'\Blender Foundation\Blender\.blender\scripts\'.

Copy and Paste the four scripts into the scripts folder. After doing so, you may want to rehide the hidden files and folders.

If you are trying to install that exporter into Blender 2.57 it will not work. You have to use version 2.49. Lots of difference between the two versions.
As of right now you cannot export into RW with Blender 2.57b. I have had some luck with exporting the objects into 3DCrafter and then into RW but I am having some problems with the textures still.
I am sure Henning the author of the exporter will get that fixed in the future.

I agree that Bigex will not work with 2.57. But why not go from 2.57 to 2.49 to RW instead of through 3DC? You do lose the animation, but in most cases, it should be fairly easy to re-animate in 2.49 (I've tested this with a couple of locos.) I hope Henning does release a Bigex version for 2.57, but a couple of his latest posts tend to indicate otherwise.
