Loop Trouble

Unread postby simer4 » Thu May 12, 2011 9:08 pm

Well, I've run into this problem. I can't for the life of me, seem to figure out how to make a loop out of a sound that would be considered a oneshot. For example: a horn is made up of three parts. The horn start, horn loop and horn end. However, the compressor (what I am working on right now) is a single sound track, that is able to be looped somehow, in the middle of the soundtrack, while having a beginning (start up of compressor), a middle loop (the compressor loop), and an end (the compressor shutting down), all in one file, unlike horns. Such is the case with the compressor, air, and dynamic brake sounds from the Dash 9 from RSC. If anyone knows how to make a loop of the middle of a .wav file, it would be much appreciated! (P.S. I am making probably the last update for the GEVO. This includes removing all need for the Dash 9 Pack completely. This is where I am having trouble.)
Thanks,
Aidan

I've tried making three separate files for the compressor, but it didn't work because unlike the horn, the compressor sound file is triggered by the game, not by a manual action. The code is set up for a single loop. The horn you start the sound by pushing the space bar, you loop it as long as you hold the space bar down, then trigger the last file by releasing the space bar.

Yes, exactly, I have gone over the Audio DevDocs, but this didn't help me. I don't understand the "Minutes From Midnight" thing of locomotives either. I have tried messing around with this, but it just stopped playing the compressor sound in the end. !*hp*!

Oh, oh, oh, I think I'm on to something. I read something saying that these type of sounds need cue points. You can make these in Goldwave or Adobe Audition. I'm gonna try this out.

Alright, I got it. First you need Wavosaur (http://www.wavosaur.com/). Then, load your sound into Wavosaur, highlight the area you want to loop, then go to Tools -> Loop -> Create Loop Points. Some yellow lines and loop start/end should appear on the timeline. Then, File -> Save As. And you're done! Took me this long to find this out. !*hp*!
