TS18 instability?

Unread postby OldProf » Tue Nov 21, 2017 9:45 pm

Since we don't have a specific forum section for TS2018 yet, I'm tossing this in here.

It seems to me that TS2018 is quite unstable. I feel this way based on the very high number of crashes I've experienced since this new version downloaded. Granted, for the most part I've been testing scenarios for an as yet unreleased route, but today I tried one of the scenarios from the new Soldier Summit Scenario Pack, which also ended in a seemingly causeless crash to the desktop. Is there a way, beyond a simple file verification, to completely re-download all of TS2018?

Just rename the folder RailWorks to RailWorks.xxx exit Steam and then sign on again. It should re-load a vanilla version of TS2018. Then you can decide if you want to transfer what parts of your original Content and Assets over to the new one if it runs OK for you. Hope that answers your question.

One thing I found out recently, not sure if it is a new 'feature' with TS18 or if it had happened previously but..

If you install a DLC from steam and then 'uncheck' the DLC box for that item it will no longer load that item in your sim. It may still show in the menu and all of the files will still be in your Railworks directory, but it will not load the route/scenery/locos that were a part of the pack. This also goes for other installations of Railworks you have. If you are like me and create many different installations with many different assets loaded you will bork the whole thing by unchecking the DLC box for that item. I can't remember this being an issue before but I may be mistaken.

When we put a locomotive on a stage, I know how to make it the main locomotive. I ask, how do we do when we put two or more locomotives pulling several carriages? I did, a free route, with more than one locomotive but, it seems to me that only 1º works. What did I have to do?

It's always been that way.

What locomotive are we talking about here?

Is the instability with the update with the paid content or the base update without any content? I am using the base update without any issues so far.

None in particular, only when we form a train with more than one locomotive, I know how to define the locomotive that directs the composition, but how do I make the others "pull" the carriages? Just put them where they work on it without doing anything else?

That's what I do and they all make noise and add to the pulling power.

I finally got a chance to actually run some scenarios yesterday, one of them close to two hours and I saw no signs of any instabilities in any way.

On the flip side, Tom, I haven't had any problems whatsoever with TS2018, it's exceptionally stable on my computer, it runs like a dream, no crashes at all, the only thing I needed to do was re-install my Payware 3rd party British & American soundpacks, which one needs to do after a verify cache anyway, which is what this could be construed as, in a way. Job done and busy taking screenshots, and driving trains from around the world, I'm having a ball......... !*YAAA*! !*YAAA*! !*YAAA*!

EDIT: Steam automatically downloaded a 25mb patch to bring it up to version 60.4c, content is for the core game, maybe this has adjusted some of these scenario problems for you. Tom.

Cheerz. Steve. !*salute*!

Have you seen the posts on the British forum, Tom, if you have any Narrow Guage Asset folders from developer Richard Maxted installed, there is a problem with one of his files in TS2018 now, apparently, read all about it here - http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... hardmaxted
