Modeling/importing issues

Unread postby Nitsujy12345 » Tue Mar 14, 2017 1:41 pm

I have this single EMD truck piece that I attempted to import into the game today. I made it just a scenery object for now. But it isn't quite right... I can't select it directly (I have to use the circle select and risk selecting things around it as well), and it disappears from certain angles/distances.
I am new to modeling for train sim, so any help on how to fix this is appreciated. (Not to mention when I tried placing another one it was invisible except for one deformed face of the model going through the ground)

Just so we're clear on nomenclature, you export files to the game and not import into. :D

Sounds like one or more parts aren't named correctly with LOD info (1_1024_bogey, for example).
Cheers!

I also faced the same problem. If you are using 3DS max try "reset x form".

This is just a guess, but the selection issue *might* be caused by using rail vehicle specific group names (like 1_xxxx_bo01 etc.) for the main hierarchy node in a static scenery model.

You could try this: add a simple textured cube in place of the loco's body to your project and set it's pivot point correctly to 0,0,0. Name it 1_1000_scenery and use this as your main hierarchy node and export the two bogie groups with it (with their pivots at the correct, roughly real-world, locations in relation to the main group). Try a new re-export then. That should at least fix your selection problem and maybe also the disappearing at zoom/angles, if that was in fact related to group names or pivots.
