Eagle Ridge clarification

Unread postby Gunloon » Thu Jan 27, 2011 10:13 pm

I'm a bit confused here. I downloaded Marc Simpson's Eagle Ridge Route, and it's a good looker in the free roam scenarios installed in it. Being a hapless noob at RW still, I'm a ways from being able to create my own scenarios though. Now, Michael Stephan has some nice looking GN scenarios for a 'Pike's Eagle Ridge Bay 1.2' route, and shows a link to the route at TrainSim in his readme files to download it, but it's dead.

I downloaded the scenarios and sure enough they don't show up in the 'Eagle Ridge' route I have. I gotta be missing the correct route and would like to use the scenarios, but I'm not about to drop the dough on the Britkits GN packs that are needed, good as I'm sure they are, until I know I can. Any help would be much appreciated!

Well I have it on my RW, however can't find the original download. If we strike out here on no one able to find it I'll package it up and send it to you. The only problem with that is I have no idea what I'm doing so who knows what you'll get. !*roll-laugh*!

Well thanks, that's a thoughtful gesture!

Worst case, it doesn't work or causes some conflict, if you package it I can uninstall it as easily as installing it with the manager. Hardly the end of the world if there's a problem and it's certainly worth a shot.

There are quite a few fine routes available at this point, I just curse my noobosity at not being able as yet to write scenarios for them and having to rely on the good graces of others to do so. If getting this one working with some existing scenarios can happen it'll take the sting out of waiting for new ones for the Soo Line, PLE, and Tori's cool Alleghany route (just to name a few), and of course I'll be delighted when and if those are addressed :)

Here's Pike's Eagle Ridge mod in zip format:

Hawk: I didn't see anything in the readme about not sharing this file, but if it's a problem go ahead and delete this post.

It's unprotected so it shouldn't be a problem. I got a message back from my inquiry to Tim about if he had a copy and he said he no longer had it so I was free to send a copy. Glad to see the file here.

Judging by Buzz's post, I don't see a problem with it.
Thanks for asking though. !*salute*!

Well, looking interesting so far, the route shows up as the new 'Pike's Eagle Ridge Bay...' etc. and Michael's scenarios are showing up in the list and hopefully will work once I purchase the GN packs from Britkits.

However...

Attempting to load any of the included scenarios gets me one I haven't seen before, a 'broken consist' error. I think all the assets I needed are in place, or I'd be getting a 'cannot load rail vehicle' error, correct?

I was able to create a little free roam scenario using a high nose GP-9, I made sure to copy and paste all those 'x-GP9_hi_db.GeoPcDx' files from the payware GP-9 Xtra kit so they'd be usable.

Anyone have any suggestions? I suspect Michael's GN TOFC and Grain Extra scenarios would load OK since none of the original vehicles are used AFAIK, but I'm still a bit leery about dropping $45 and finding they might not work...

Thanks for the help so far, I'm a lot closer than I was to getting everything running well!

I assume it's one of the Canadian SD-40s. CN, likely, the CPs are all bright red AFAIK.

it is CN but not an SD40, look at the cab of the loco. it has a round roof and the dynamic fan grill is pointed up. is it the repaint of the GP9?

Could well be, I know I downloaded a bunch of GP-9 repaints for the original default SAL GP-9. I honestly wasn't paying much attention to much beyond the error message!

In the free roam I conjured I added some empty container carrying flat cars to go with the bright red CP GP-9 and had fun playing with the intermodal loader at the docks. This route has so much potential for stuff to do, all kinds of interactive widgets and many yards at the various locales, I can't believe it's been languishing as it has. As I mentioned, when budget permits I'll be getting the GN freight packs from Britkits to take advantage of Michael Stephan's scenarios here.

Michael's very modest and claims scenario writing isn't his forte, but the most fun I've been having with RW is with his scenarios and routes in Jason Sill's Bay of Quinte, his MC&SA 1920s passenger routes, Industrial Interactive Route and the Big Horn Sub Route V-3 as well as a few for the default routes. I do hope he turns his attention to this one again as well as the others, the man knows how to tell a story with his scenarios.

Re: Broken consists,

This worked for me in fixing the broken consist errors. Tedious at times, depending on how many there are, but it works.

Looks to me like a Michael Zimmer repaint of Dick Cowan's GP9 from here - http://railworks.banal.net/catalog/page ... ional.html

I could be wrong of course........ !*don-know!* !*roll-laugh*!

I've got extremely confused with how many versions of Eagle Ridge layouts there actually are, can somebody please enlighten me as to what the differences are between the 2 maps by Marc Simpson and Pike, please ??

Thanks again, you're a helpful cuss! I'll get into this possible solution and see if I can't get some results. This makes sense, I already tried moving the cars and replacing them in the first passenger run scenario with no results, but this gives me some other things to try. Much appreciated.

Looking at the readme with the route, you're correct, as you'll see:

You will need to download the following freeware engine repaints from:
http://railworks.banal.net/downloads/downloads.html. AWESOME SITE!!

Canadian National EMD GP9 Set (CA_CN_GP9_MZ.zip)
Canadian National EMD SD40-2 Set (CA_CN_SD40-2_MZ.zip)
Canadian Pacific EMD GP9 Set (CA_CP_GP9_MZ-zip)
Canadian Pacific EMD SD40-2 Set (CA_CP_SD40-2_MZ.zip)
CEFX EMD SD40-2 Set (US_CEFX_SD40-2_MZ_Zip)
Leasing Collection (US_Leasing_Collection_MZ.zip)

There seem to be two versions as you note, the Pike original and Marc Simpson's. I haven't taken the time to explore every foot of each and compare, superficially they seem identical. At this point I'm just interested in practical results, and since there's a bunch of scenarios included with Pike's along with two more from Michael Stephan, that's where I'm focusing my efforts.
