Sudden Crashes (Not a noob question)

I've been a route builder for a few years now, so I know all of the typical crashes. Sometimes, you get a bad piece track or wall or whatever it is you are using, and every time you go to add onto it the game will crash. The solution to this is to cut away part of the end and delete it.
My problem is similar to this, but not quite it exactly. I am working on a track that climbs a mountain and runs alongside a river. To make this video, I essentially just started placing track in random places to record the next crash. To my surprise it didn't happen until about five new sections, compared to what it usually is.

Everything was going fine in the beginning of this line, but then this started to happen. When I place some track, with grade set to 1.25%, it occasionally crashes. Sometimes after it crashes, I can still add onto the most recent segment and it will not crash the game, unlike the typical crash as stated above. I have also tried to delete a segment of the most resent section and try again and it worked SOMETIMES, but not always. If it did happen to work, a few sections of track later it'll happen again. This gets real old real fast, and I have to save after every section of new track. It is the same track I've been using before (track from the Virtual New Haven route), and nothing else has changed from when the crashes started from up to the point when I made the switch track to go onto this line (which is also a pretty long distance).
Does anybody know what may be causing this?

You saving with the f2 key? I have iobit software and find that if I clear ram and use the f2 key regularly. It seems to almost never crash. Even when you do a save with the arrow and it crashes if you did the f2 first every thing is saved.

I do use the F2 key. My concern is that this has never happened in all of my years of route building. This is also one of my first times using the 'set grade' tool, so I'm not sure if that corresponds to the crashing or not.

I have had it for years. It's a great piece of software. If this is something new for you you may have another issue.

The gradient tool has caused some strange crashes for me in the past. My symptom was if I was too quick to click with the tool, and immediately start dragging the track to adjust grade, I would get a 'dump file' error and the game would freeze/crash. If I click, them pause before adjusting the grade, no issue.

Not sure if that's of any help to you. !*don-know!*

Hi,

not sure if that is in any way related to the actual cause of the crashes you're seeing, but in general I think it helps to always

1) split the track ribbon frequently, particularly before and after the start/end of curves that were built with the easement tool for super elevation
2) split the track ribbon between switches that share the same track ribbon (for example, two switches facing opposite directions off the same track)
3) turn off the "camera follow" setting of the track placement tool

The latter makes placing long segments of track a bit tedious because you have to move the camera manually, but it stops the camera moving about so quickly which I think can also lead to crashes if the sim can't keep up with loading the tiles as you zip along. Also, it forces you to unselect the track placement tool every 1000m or so to move the camera -- which offers a good opportunity to save (and might also help with memory management, though that is just a wild guess).

Cheers
Michael

I will try some of that out. I never had any issues with moving to fast or not splitting the track up until I started with the preset Grade tool. But who knows, maybe this'll work. Thanks

Nothing has worked. My game still crashes at the same times.
