Assets Start Sinking When I Click Them into Place.

Unread postby Ericmopar » Thu Oct 22, 2015 4:10 am

I'm stumped by this one.
About a week ago, when I'm working on my Donner Redo, trees and other assets will start sinking when I place them. I have to right click which will stop the sinking and then click on the asset and then hit the delete button on my keyboard to get rid of the asset.
Once this process starts, it does it on every asset I try to place afterword.
I have to give up and exit.
It doesn't start this way, it seems to start about 30min or more into a session of editing the scenery.
It's gotten really bad west of Tunnel 1, west of Blue Canyon.

Do you mean the asset is physically sinking into the terrain, or that it sits below at a certain distance when placed?

There's an old bug where the game loses keyboard focus after a period of time and has existed since TS2010.
Cheers!

I mean I grab an asset from the list, then put it where I want it, then click it into place. The asset will stay red and start continually sinking into the ground unless I intervene.
If I don't intervene, it will sink on it's own until it vanishes below ground level, never to be seen again.
I know it's not the offset tool setting, since I've been using the same -0.30 offset for close to a year.

I’ve noticed the same error a few days ago as my assets started to lift up after I placed or selected them.

Restart of the game solved it, but to me it was a keyboard combination as it started while I worked with copy and paste and very likely hit another button.

Searching for the fault there was (I forgot where, might have been in the manuals) something about adding changing keyboard shortcuts. Probably we accidentally changed the keys which the game is using.

Do you have input devices connected, such as joysticks, throttles, etc?
Maybe a device has a misbehaving axis, the usual culprit being a throttle on a joystick being not centerd.

In my case I do have input devices connected to my computer but not to TS.
Also I had no errors (except the normal game bugs) since then.

No devices, just a keyboard and mouse neither of which has given my a problem before in 2.5 years of use.

I don't use copy and paste.

So yours are going up instead of down. Weird.

This problem rings a bell. I just can't find the thread, if I read it here, about this problem.

Update: OK I found the thread. It was over at that other forum and while the conversation was about "sinking" it was not the same problem you have.

Has happened to me twice while in both the Route and World Editors. My asset did not sink, but the camera did. I think I brushed up against a key or keys both times and my view began going down like a doomed jetliner. Still don't know which key or keys I accidentally may have hit.

Had to jump out of the sim without the normal save/exit. All was well upon restart.

Might be similar to your problem drivertime61,
I've noticed when moving around with the camera while the game reloads the assets (F9) that the camera doesn’t stop moving when the key gets released. (It happens not always but quite often, mostly if you are moving for a longer time like looking for details on a locomotive)
My personal solution was hitting the arrow keys randomly which somehow stopped the movement and made it controllable again.
It’s a different error that exists for a longer time now. Hope I could help you.

Thanks SD. I'll keep the arrow keys in mind should it happen again. I wish I could remember exactly what I was doing each time it occurred, but I was so startled both times that it sort of erased my previous moves from my memory. I may very well have been moving around using the arrow keys, possibly in combination with the Shift or Control keys. Can't swear to that though.
