Do engines really run 67MPH with 13% throttle (notch 1)?

Unread postby LionelDave » Mon Jul 06, 2015 8:31 am

This has bother me for a long time but I've never ask this question before but after another derailment I'm ready to ask it.

I just have a hard time believing any engine (no cars) will go that fast in level 1, or notch 1, or 13 percent throttle in real life. (it's not just 1 engine (sd-40) but almost any engine I drive.

Wouldn't friction keep the speed down to a more manageable notch 1 speed? The only thing more cars do is slow down how fast it reaches that speed.

And if it's true how do I find engines that don't have such a high end speed?

I know this is NOT accurate but the observations of someone who is blowing off steam *!lol!*

No only in Railworks with older engines.

Thanks for the info; I believe I'm running TS-2015 but I know I'm running older engines.

So How do I know, or better yet, find the newer engines I would love to drive one. I believe it would solve my biggest driving problem.

Thanks for the information.

The ones that came out a few routes ago started changing. The Canadian Passes I beleive is where it all started. If the engine you have is in the Kuju folder structure, it is old.

I would possibly suggest having a look in the library to see what locomotives have had their physics updated, there are a few modifications available for various locomotives that were included in DLC route releases and the default offerings. Fortunately, some very nice people have done a few mods on some locos and other content to bring them more up to date for us to play with. Have a look through what is available, If you cannot find anything suitable then the only other locomotives that come anywhere near authentic and realistic are the Payware models from VRC and EYEIN12, etc, etc, for diesels and Mike Rennie did his Steam FEF as DLC on Steam, which is just the job.

Thanks for all your help, but I still can't find the engines with the correct specs. But I did find one that works pretty good (RWA RS1) it doesn't act like formula 1 race car. (I like that term) .

I tried an engine from "Stevens pass" (the only Canadian route I have) and an engine from TAD and a couple of others with no luck. Now I just wish I could find a couple of different types of engines so I could have a variety.

I assume you can transfer the rwa rs1 engine spec to other engines. Does any one know what files they are? Or can anyone give me the name of specific engines that have the new engineering.

Thanks

Dave

PS: Ex-railwayman I could not find either of those two sites you talked about. (I'm not very good at following instructions)

My two favorite engines are Reppo's GP20 (official DLC) and VR's Alco RS11 (official DLC and TaD).
I can tell you that the RS11 really feels heavy, and with the old manual-lapping brakes it is a challenge to drive.
