Pecularities department: name and description not on Workshop tab

Unread postby OldProf » Thu May 21, 2015 11:25 am

Just to give the new help system a try, I sent in a question about why scenario writers' names and the descriptions they include when uploading a scenario to Steam Workshop do not appear on the Workshop page in TS2015.

First, let me note that I received a reply within less than 24 hours.

Second, however, let me quote the reply in full: "These details, due to security limitations of the Steam Workshop system, are only available ingame if your Steam account is friends with the author's account."

Come again? This information appears publicly on the Steam Workshop page related to the scenario, so why should it become a security issue within the game? I'm well aware that the author's name and the scenario's description can be accessed by clicking the "View" button on the Workshop tab, but then why are there large spaces available on that tab for "Name" and Description fields?

In regard to establishing a friendly relationship with each and every author whose scenario I choose to download, that will not happen. I still value friendship to the point of extending and accepting it judiciously rather than treating it as a worthless toy.

This seems very strange to me as well, but it's been their response to that question since they integrated Workshop. I don't get it either !*don-know!*

I received this follow-up message:

"I know it is strange, but this is the way the Steam workshop system works. We are not able to retrieve the author's name unless your account is friends with the author.

The Steam website uses a different system to ingame workshop."

Perhaps it would be possible to make the author's name part of the scenario name . . . hmmm.
