In the Standard Scenario "High Line", there is a very small railcar that precedes the loco on the run. What were they used for? Maintenance chores, checking the track ahead for fallen rocks, debris etc? Or some other purpose?

Got my answer. Just opened the scenario xml file and read the description! I see they are called "Speeders". They remind me of a German automobile made by NSU, called the Prinz.
