Another TS adventure:

It's time for another episode of OldProf's Believe It Or Doubt It:

This delightful magic trick happened while I was testing a scenario I'm writing for the VNHRR route. The video shows an AI engine that is supposed to drop off a rack of gondolas and pick up another. It has successfully reached the drop-off track and . . . well, look at the video again.

Hours I've played TS: 7,276; hours I've waited for Cache Verification to complete: well, Steam doesn't report that, of course, but it sure feels like about 8,000.

Just a FYI. You interested in how many cache verifications I have run this year? Zero. You interested in how many I did last year. Three.

So?

You were intimating that you had to run the cache verify a lot. Just wondering why that's all not trying to imply anything.

Hi Tom,

I think I've seen similar effects before, also with other routes / rolling stock. Maybe it's even the same effect you're seeing that you occasional get when running parallel to an AI train that accelerates (like leaving a station side by side). Those AIs occasionally also jump for- and backwards. Quite confusing to look at, but I don't think it has any negative effects on how the AI actually performs (no derailing etc.).

Cheers
Michael

(((({{{{[[[[ It's called exaggeration for the sake of humor, Buzz. ]]]]}}}}))))

By the way, aren't you the fellow who frequently advises others to verify the cache until no faulty files show up? I actually wasted time trying that once: 0 files failed to verify the second time around.

Well, not exactly, Michael. While the AI train does not derail, nor does it fulfill its purpose: dropping off a cut of cars that the player train will pick up later. It's these "little" things that lead me to give TS the old double-F: frustrating and funny.

Meanwhile, I ran a cache check after making that little video, but haven't checked the scenario again since. I'll be back later to announce the results -- as though anyone cares.

EDIT: Yep, the cache verification fixed the hopscotching loco. In a way, that's too bad: it was fun to watch. Fortunately, I still have the video!

I thought that couldn't be done. Doesn't the program need to know where the cars are at the beginning to pick them up? If you delete the player train pickup of those cars does it still do it?

Yes but that's for AI trains. The player can always pick up any car on the network.

Didn't realize that, thanks. Gonna have to do that.
