Terrain 'unsnapping' from track...

Unread postby BoostedFridge » Sat Feb 14, 2015 1:36 pm

This game is driving me nuts...

I completed all the track laying on my SP Siskiyou route a few months ago, and then spent a week or two manually adjusting the terrain tiles to sit properly against the bottom of the ballast on the track lofts. Floating track is a giant pet peeve of mine! I have since moved on to scenery, and have been working on a city area for the last while. I did a 'drive over' of the route this morning to take a break, and noticed along the way that randomly across the route there are many areas where my terrain adjustments have reverted back to their 'original' heights! There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to where this has occured... I've been backing the route up every two to three days, but my last several backups all seem to have this issue too. I am so paranoid about losing any work that I'm saving changes every two to three minutes while i"m working on it.

Is there any reason that you all can think of that this would be happening?? Is there anything else I can do to prevent it?

Any help is appreciated, as this is frustrating me to the point where it feels futile to keep working on it.

After working on Donner since last Thanksgiving, I can tell you two things.
First of all is my early backups were showing this, and when I studied it, it turned out to be the lighting angles during different seasons and time of day exposing missed spots.
My original Donner Pass Southern Pacific folder in my TS2014 backup showed the same spots most of the time, so I had simply missed them.
That being said I think that sometimes getting into and out of the editor a lot can sometimes mess up a section of route that can be miles from where a person is working.

Buzz taught me to frequently hit the F2 key and "Save" quite often. Since I started doing that I haven't had anymore issues.
BTW when you want to save while in the editor, a person sometimes will have to "right click" first to clear anything that might be selected, otherwise the save prompt won't come up at times.

I forgot to add that sometimes when adjusting terrain near the track it will also pop the section under the track or along the track nearby, to a section you just shaped or lifted to were you wanted it. Kinda like messing around with a piece of sheet metal.
It can be frustrating in some areas. It's like trying to knock out a dent and moving it to a new spot. !*roll-laugh*!

I don't know if your still loading terrain, but if you are; be careful to not choose to big of a tile square size. This can also reset your terrain wiping out any fixing you did.
