Wheel Flange Squeal on West Highland Route

Unread postby DapperDan » Tue Dec 09, 2014 2:21 pm

Most likely not using the correct/technical term, but where (what file) would I try looking at to see if I could either get rid of, or at least muffle the squealing sounds on the curves for this route. While I like the route, I find that after a short period of time the squealing noise on the curves starts to get to me. It's like fingernails on a chalkboard and I start turning down the volume on my sound system to the point where I can hardly here anything.

Thanks,
Doug

There is usually a folder in the Assets whatever the name of the route is called Audio. In there is one that says wagons. It'll be there somewhere.

Doug
Likewise the seagulls at Mallaig!!
Shunting becomes a nightmare due to the raucous sound,
Come on Buzz where are the seagulls hiding? *!lol!*

Found the proxy file for the annoying squealing. It's in the Bogies folder and it has two references in it for flange fast and flange slow. I zeroed out the base volume for both references and that did the trick. No more irritating squealing.

Peter, I think the proxy file(s) for seagulls/seabirds are either in "Audio\Ambient\Area or GenericPoint". They don't really bother me that much as at least they're only in a specific area and I keep my head down. !*roll-laugh*!

I would suggest that if you want to either get rid of the sound, or at least tone it down to start with the "AMB_A_Seaside" proxy file as I tested the dav file for the Seaside birds and it seems to me to be the annoying one you're talking about.

Doug
