Any info on when DTG will release the recently pulled update?

Interesting that you should ask. I have just started RW, and like it does on the odd occasion, it wont start in off-line; you need to go online and then select play offline and restart and all is normally good. Today I have done it and before I could go back off line, it has started downloading a rather large update - up to about 120 meg and Steam is indicating over 950 meg!! No idea what it is, and ticked because I wasn't expecting it and haven't backed anything up. You will hear me curse from there if this buggers it up! There is nothing I can see on the Farcebook page or anywhere else mentioning an update.

N O T A H A P P Y C A M P E R !

**!!bang!!**

!*cheers*!

ps: after all that, downloaded 958 meg which will cost me about $25 because of the minimal net connection I have at home , and I am on Version 48a, which I think is the current version. !*hp*!

These people would stuff up a glass of water...

Cheers guys - as I suspected. Another RW farce. Wonder if DTG are going to recompense the $45 I was charged to effectively download nothing! It costs me $180 for 4G of data, thanks to a crappy telco and the local infrastructure being at capacity and not being able to get a hardwired net connection.

Really gets up my nose. Then there will be another fistfull of $$ when the much vaunted "patch" is re-released and we have to revisit the exercise all over.

Just ruddy annoyed!!

Excuse me, but in what sense is this RSC's fault? You bought the simulator and (at least tacitly) agreed to accept updates via Steam; you chose an internet provider; you didn't choose local infrastructure, but that's not RSC's fault, either. I can understand your annoyance (I have to put up with ATT as a provider!), but not your trying to take it out on RSC. !*don-know!*

And on top of that it's probably a Steam fiasco not even whatever their name is this year.

RSC / DTG etc own the software, Steam are just their distribution method - they dont get to determine what is released and when, it is up to the provider. The fact that there was no update to speak of, just 950+ meg of data download cost leaving me in the same position as before I started. Why all of a sudden do it now?
Imagine this - DTG are still using the old hard media distribution, delivered via post. You get a notification to go to the Post Office to collect a parcel from them but it is marked receiver to pay post so you have to pay the postage when you pick it up. Fine, no problems - you go to the post office, pay the hypothetical $25 air freight from the UK, get it home, open it up and the box is empty. The box belongs to DTG, they sent it to you; you cant blame the post system, because if DTG hadn't given them the box there would have been no cost.

I appreciate my internet connection etc is my issue and with that I am judicial about what I download. There was no notification of an update and no chance to decide whether to accept it at the time, or defer to later / back up my install etc. The only way there was anything to download is because DTG had it there, remembering Steam dont generate it, create it or own it; just send it.
**!!2cents!!**

I don't recall a single time where RSC/DTG didn't give a heads up on a major update, and I believe this one was almost a week prior to release.

FWIW.

Recently posted on the RSC Facebook page in answer to a question about when the patch will be re-issued.

'RailSimulator.com Based upon the current development cycle we expect to release it as a public beta within a few weeks. Provided the beta all goes well it will roll out to everyone a few weeks after that. We will have more information closer to the time.'

So it looks like it will be out in a few weeks plus a few weeks.

And it only took a few weeks to come up with that. *!lol!*

So it'll be a few weeks after the few weeks to take a few more weeks for whatever. Maybe they could do the simple stuff in just a couple of weeks now that they have taken a few weeks and save the hard stuff for more than a few weeks. !*roll-laugh*! !*roll-laugh*!

Good lord...
I'm glad our internet in the States is a lot more reasonable.
I'm getting a 50MB connection plus phone and T.V. for $70 U.S. That's a flat rate too.
