VRC GP40 Repaint

If you know me, you know I repaint a lot. I went to repaint the GP40-2 from Virtual Rail Creations into Ex CR NS. I found the texture files to be VERY easy to understand as there is only one texture for the entire main body. What I did find out though, is for the entire long hood (except for the door that opens for priming and starting the engine) still has normal CSX paint, same as the front nose and back as well.

That shows what the model looks like after repainting the entire thing

You can see that when I click on it, anything that is still default CSX paint does NOT get shaded with red, like everything that actually painted to the right color.

The cause of this is in the GeoPCDX File, instead of using the XML file for the texture, in the GeoPCDX file it is directly looking to go to the default CSX textures, and I can not edit the GeoPCDX file.
Does anyone have a solution to getting this to work?

Have you talked with any of the VRC guys?

And did you know we already obtained a NS license?

We made the model in a few parts to help with the advanced features like priming/starting, the handbrake, and looking out the window.

So what this amounts to is after years of certain individuals involved with this railing against anyone doing payware those of us that do free stuff for the community are being frozen out of this lovely model. Semper money. From the post on another thread CSX will not allow C&O and B&O repaints so we will have to go elsewhere to fulfill our wishes.

Okay thanks. But in the case that I find a company that is not licensed and wish to repaint it, is there a possible way for me to do it? the only was I can is by repainting the original which I do not wish to do.

Do you know how he did this? If it envolves editing the GeoPCDX file I'd love to know as then I can repaint tons of stuff that I am currently having the same problem with.
If it means repainting the original model, then nevermind I don't wish to know

For some mysterious reason this has not reached the library.

You'd have to PM mikeg1250 on how he did it.

None of us at VRC are blocking it if that is what you are asking. It is an awesome repaint. We would also welcome a NERW repaint, or any other fictitious line for that matter.

We never said you can't repaint a licensed company for your own use, just that you can not redistribute it (sections A and B in our EULA). By the way its CSX that is not allowing the old liveries to be done and they never explained why.

@Nitsujy12345 I don't understand why you are having problems with repainting the model. We did not go out of our way to make it difficult and it does not require any recompilation of the source to work. You should not need to alter any of the geometry.

True this is. I'm currently painting up a new livery, and it's going onto the CSX 01 without issues. The startup door, and several bits of jewelry have separate textures, but that doesn't effect the long hood or anything on the main texture.

So how did you repaint it? The only file I can find that has a texture that goes where I want is in the same file as the parts that are not being placed on. Is there a specific file you repainted that I'm somehow not seeing? How many files did you repaint for the main body of this loco?

The only file I edited was the 'gp402.TgPcDx' in the engine textures folder.

Try this: rename gp402.TgPcDx to xx_gp402.TgPcDx in the original csx-01 folder, then add your new texture as gp402.TgPcDx and see how it works out.

Secondarily, after re-reading your posts, I notice you are having issues in other repaints. How are you converting the file to TgPcDx?

I repaint by doing the normal XML file thing, but for textures I use RSBinTool to open the texture then export it from there to my desktop, where I open it with DxtBMP. From that I open the texture in Paint.net. I do it all backwards when I'm done, save to DxtBMP, import to RSBinTool, and save.

Basically the same as I do, save that PS with the right plugins imports and exports DDS files directly.
