The sim's random self-changing of environmental settings...

I haven't read of this before, so I'm asking...

I've run scenarios that once in awhile don't appear visually as they should. I booted up the summer free roam scenario on the Castle Rock route which is set to clear skies and a 10 a.m. start time. Picture #1 is the way it normally appears. Picture #2 is how scenarios sometimes load like. It happens sometimes in Quick Drive as well. Notice the sun on the horizon and the much darker environment? Certainly it no longer looks like 10 a.m. that's for sure. This has happened in 2014 too and also in 2013 if my memory serves me right. Anybody got a clue? !**conf**!

Not a big deal. A reload usually remedies it. Just curious if this has happened to others. I've loaded Cajon Pass with TSX-OFF in the past and the environment sometimes looks dark (when it should be lighter) and the normally tan colored sands of the desert look a coal sooty, brownish color instead. Again... reloading it usually fixes it.

This reminds me of the sim launching with no sound sometimes. I gotta re-launch it to fix. !**duh*!!

I've had something sort of similar where the weather changes from say rainy to sunny after I go into scenario editor to change rolling stock around. I've pretty much figured I am fat-fingering my laptop mouse. I have it set to simulate a slide bar on the right edge, and because the touch pad is off set to the left (I can't stand it!) I tend to rest my finger on the slide bar. So without realizing it I am scrolling through weather patterns even though the fly-out isn't "flown out" (but is active until I click on the blue square with the orange thingy).

Sorta Kinda !**duh*!!

I have experienced the same thing here.

So it's not just me. I'm guessing it's a bug that's been there for years. I started using this sim with TS2012. It's been a few years, so I can't recall if TS2012 had it but I have a hunch it did. Again... a relaunch of the scenario usually fixes the problem. The question was asked more out of curiosity than anything else.

Just to ask - are you seeing this on a fresh start of the sim or after having loading another route prior? If completely different weather patterns are present, loading a route after having run another seems to cause issues with the environment files.

You know.... that's a very good question. I can't recall if it's happened right after the first launch of the sim or not. I also can't recall if I had run a different route or scenario prior. Since I wasn't paying attention to those aspects, it just seemed random to me when in fact there may have been a pattern of it happening after loading something else first. I've launched with no problems after loading other things prior, so it still is random even if the times it happened may have had similar conditions.

Again... it's a "just curious" question since a relaunch of the scenario seems to fix it. Fairy painless.

The funny thing is that the no sound bug seems just as random, but just as easily fixed by quitting the sim and relaunching it. Although I've had to relaunch the sim 2 times on a few occasions cuz the first relaunch didn't bring the sound back. !!bang!!

If I'm remembering correctly (which does happen now and then), RSC announced that TS2015 would include changing weather patterns, e.g. fair to cloudy to rain, etc. Perhaps what you see as a problem is actually a feature?

No, it's a bug with loading other routes in the same session. Seems to hold environment variables from other routes when loading new ones (on rare occasions.)

I was also getting the same carry overs of the 3D weather patterns I was testing yesterday. I did a fresh start after clearing the cache and did some editing/testing in a little test scenario I have on the NERW-PA route. What I found was on a number of occasions when I changed the weather from (can't remember exact wording) 3D Stormy (or was it Rainy) to 3D Clear I'd get a few raindrops landing on the windshield at the start after saving. Plus (and this might only apply to the NERW route), when I changed the seasons (had started testing in summer at 12noon) and tried testing 3D Cloudy at 9pm it was still light where IMO it should have been dark, especially in Winter.

!*don-know!*

I've resurrected this thread, because I've now experienced this problem. I've never had this problem in the editor before. Then again I haven't done any major painting etc for about a year.
The problem is definitely related to using the editor.
I first noticed it when doing more work on a Castle Rock redo that I have.
Restarting the scenario or game won't work for me to clear it up, but restarting the PC does.
My guess would be, the game and or Steam is somehow leaving garbage in the RAM since restarting Steam or Sim doesn't correct the situation.

It doesn't seem to be related to the weather, since I'm not using any 3D weather on my Castle Rock redo.

All I can say is that the game has always done that. There are definitely some things being save from one start to another if they are soon. Check your start time from a fresh start as opposed to a quick re-start and I see a much quicker launch. What and where I have never looked at. I have never seen the no sound but the weather changing after making a rolling stock change I have seen. Kid, it would be interesting next time that seeming time of day change happens to go into the editor and see what time it says.
