Google map overlay in world editor slower in TS2015

Unread postby BoostedFridge » Tue Sep 23, 2014 6:15 pm

Hi Guys,

I just did my update to TS2015 today, and went to resume work on my route. The first thing I noticed is that panning the camera and flying around in the world editor is much smoother and faster than last week when I was in TS2014 - great! Then I pressed ctrl+G to bring up my google map overlay and everything lagged out... the blue circles indicating the overlay is loading for that tile move verrrrry slowly, and all of a sudden any movement, or input becomes super laggy and slow. I've tried pressing pause to halt the overlay, or waited until its loaded, then pressing pause, as well as reducing the opacity to as low as it goes. I even dropped the google map overlay resolution down to 640x480, to no avail. My game graphics settings appear unchanged from before the update for what its worth.

Has anybody else experienced this? Any suggestions?

I don't see any difference. Do you have the setting at 640x640?

I had been running the overlay resolution at 1280x1280 in TS2014 with no issues. I dropped it down to 640x640 after the TS2015 'upgrade' , but it didn't help this lag/choppiness issue at all. I just turned my graphics settings down to the lowest setting possible, and its helped somewhat. Still quite slow though. I turned off the dynamic clouds and lighting already too.

I'm baffled by this, since the game and editor seem faster and smoother in TS2015 until I use the overlay. I wouldn't think that a 2D layer draped over the terrain would cause such a performance drop.

This is odd since I have seen no change at all.

Hrm.... maybe its some idiosyncrasy with my combo of hardware. I'm going to regenerate my google API, if that doesn't work reinstall the game. It still confounds me that something in the update (other than the clouds) would suddenly tax my GPU like this

How do you get to the world editor?

I make a freeroam scenario with no engine in the spot I am going to be working for a few weeks. I then run it and go to the editor by pressing control e. If I give this scenario the new 3D weather, it does slow me down a little. If you are just using the build button you may be getting a default 3D weather. Try making a freeroam with a non 3d weather and try what I do, see if that helps you.
