Canadian Passes coupler length

Hi, Everyone! Apparently there is a fix described on u-tube, to adjust coupler length of rolling stock on the Canadian Passes route. This requires manually changing values in appropriate .bin files, which would only be temporary, and then would have to be done again after verifying files or updating. Would in not be possible for someone to make a fix, posted in the library, so that players could apply the fix after ever verification or updating? ttp://steamcommunity.com/app/24010/disc ... 906070249/

I Just made the fix and uploaded it to the file library so it will be there when it gets posted.

It was the same coupler problem as everything else, wrong units in the blueprints for spring values. Same fix too, just *1000 everything.

What happened to our lengthy discussion of all that a few years ago?

Actually the spring coefficient and damping are the problem, but not the way people think.

Those setting are really for buffer couplers.
The real settings that work like a charm.
SpringCoefficient "0"
Damping "0" Sometimes I put in a value for "100"
MinimumDistance ".01"
MaximumDistance ".06" or ".02"
TargetDistance "0"

Target distance and spring values create the creeping train when stopped, as well as "Slinky Effect" .

The only place these values haven't fully worked for some reason, is the RW&A stock. Something is different there, but it's always worked on the RSC couplers.

That works, mostly - sometimes the physics engine gets a bit confused, but also that is settings for solid bar couplers rather than slightly sprung knuckles. A little slack is still wanted, after all. The physics engine should actually clamp coupler movement - it tries! - so it doesn't matter what the spring settings are, but iirc the lack of clamping is actually a PhysX fail rather than the RW engine itself.

You need to make sure your target distance is outside the vehicle's respective pivot for that coupler - that might be what your RW&A issue is. Pivot points ( not coupler pivot points ) are what defines the vehicle's length in the physics engine, so if the target point is inside it for two vehicles they're never going to couple. The collision length etc are for placing things in the editor.

Sensible arrangement:

Coupler pivot<-distance depending on coupler length->vehicle pivot, the point at which the vehicle collides with things<-small distance depending on coupler geometry->target point.

So coupler pivot X + target distance has to be bigger than the vehicle pivot number.

That is giving it a little slack. That's why I set a minimum and max distance with little or no damping and no centering. My settings give it hard stops, with about 6" slack, like real Buckeye couplers.
If you go outside the cab and look with my settings, there is realistic coupler slack, without spongyspringyslinkyness.
I use the lower .02 max distance in the coupler bins on passenger DLC, like the F40PH and it's Amtrak cars.
With Krellnuts sounds it's magnificent to watch the train take out slack.

I use the 100 damping to get a little damping effect on DLC that has Hydra Cushion cars, like the DTM S.P. SD45.

This has only worked on couplers that come with RSCs DLC so far.
