The Sky is Black-SOLVED

I have had TS2014 since Christmas and spent many enjoyable hours running Cheyenne to Laramie and back. Even headed out of Barstow once or twice.

In every connection, be it the middle of the day or late at night, the sky is a uniform black. At first I thought the scenario was depicting a night time run, but then I realized there were no stars or clouds like I see in the screenshots of others. I can see distant peaks, but anywhere the "scenery" touches the sky is nothing but a uniform blackness.

I bought a CD of TS2013, but when the package downloaded through Steam and I started TS the Intro splashscreen shows TS2014.

Change your video board anti alias setting to application controlled.

Yep, that didn't work. Changed the anti-alias setting to application controlled. Sky is black as black can be still.

(Sorry, it took so long to respond. I migrated my OS to a new harddrive in the interim and was busy with that.)

Any other ideas? Because Flight Sim 2004, FSX, Garry's Mod, etc, etc display textures just fine. TS2014 is the absolute only application I have texture issues with.

Sorry no other ideas. When I set mine all was well, before that I had black sky and white ground. Looked like the moon.

It's been so long since this has happened to me but I think Bob is right..... I think it was me messing with the AA that caused this on my ATI/AMD GPU. I say... try to make a graphics profile for Railworks.exe that has all graphics settings at default and everything application controlled. If that don't work, maybe a clean reinstall as a last resort. !*don-know!*

If it's an ATI video chipset, "Adaptive multisampling" for the "Anti-Aliasing Method" has caused problems in the past. This is a different setting that does not have "Use application settings" as one of its settings, I usually have mine set to "Multisampling".

Well, the problem is solved thanks to all your inputs. Many thanks. After starting TS2014 with my graphics card (ATI Radeon HD4550) anti-aliasing set to application controlled I still saw the moonscape so aptly described above. I went into settings and looked at the different graphics settings that were changeable.

Two of them "jumped out" at me, Anti-Aliasing and Texture Filtering. AA was set to FXAA+8XM5AA. I lowered that setting to FXAA. TF was set to Anistropic x 8 and I lowered that to Anistropic x 2

Restarted TS2014, loaded up Sherman Hill and there she was...the sky, the Wyoming High Desert Grasslands, everything. Lowering those settings accomplished what I wanted and the scenery still looks fabulous.

Many thanks to everyone for your ideas. Time to hit the rails.
