TS2014 crashes when I try to enter Career or Standard Scenarios

I had just finished the Uno!Dos!Tres! scenario for Pacific Surfliner, and after the debriefing screen I clicked on Return To Scenario List and I got a dump popup. I tried rebooting TS2014, no luck. Tried clearing the cache from the settings menu, rebooting TS, no luck.

What happened? Can I turn in my dump file to someone to look at it, or should I just restore my backup?

The first thing to do is to go into the Steam client, sleect Library, right-click on Train Simulator 2014, then Properties (at the bottom of the menu that pops up), select the Local Files tab and click on Verify Integrity of Game Cache. That will perform a checksum on every file and download again all files that is detects as corrupted.

Do you have any third party DLC installed with the route? If it's not come from Steam, then Steam can't verify it, in which case you'd need to reinstall it using the DLC's own installer.

Yes I have 3rd party stuff such as NERW, plus my own skins and cab views, so I don't use the Verify Game Cache feature. I just copy my assets folder to a external hard drive instead to avoid hours of fixing things.

You should still use the verify integrity of game cache, otherwise you'll just get more and more corrupted files and it'll crash more and more often.

What mike is trying to say is if you have your assets copied to a external drive run the verify and then stick your saved assets back into RW. If you still have the problem then it's something in the assets folder that is causing the problem. If it is somewhere else the verify will fix whatever is wrong.

Still crashing! I just posted this same post in the Steam Forums, maybe someone there might have another trick up their sleeve.

Funny thing also is that the last scenario I saved works when I load it, but I still can't access the Career or Standard Scenarios tabs without it crashing.

Oh, what does "Delete Local Content" do, does it uninstall everything and make everything reinstall again?

Yes, delete local content removes it entirely from your hard drive, so you'd have to let it download it all over again.

I've no idea why it's crashing, but a vanilla copy of TS2014 should always work.

Let's walk through this so we are sure we are all on the same page. You saved your assets to another drive. Then you verified your files. That would not run after you did that? This would be a copy with your asset files still not re-installed in game?

Correct. So I'm currently deleting the local files and reinstalling TS from scratch.

OK but that shouldn't ever be necessary. If you verify the local files it should fix any messed up files and takes a whole lot less time.

Reinstalling TS didn't work either.

Go to your Steam folder and search for PONTrack. See what comes up. If you find it delete it or them.

I deleted everything again and checked the Railworks folder and found a lot of left over files. So I just deleted the entire Railworks folder to make sure it is a perfectly clean install. I'll let you know how it goes.

Finally got it fixed. When I uninstalled everything the first time, I didn't check the common folder to see if Railworks was still there. So I uninstalled everything a second time and found a lot of left over file, so I deleted the entire folder and reinstalled RW again and she's back to her vanilla self again.
