New York-New Haven frequently crashing

Unread postby NYTriStateEngineer » Fri Apr 18, 2014 10:21 pm

I recently got the NYC-New Haven portion of the NEC. From what I've seen it looks like a pretty nice route. Only thing stopping me from playing the whole route is this annoyance.

Everytime I play the route, doesn't matter where I start, the train moves for about 5 minutes, then the game freezes, I start task manager from Ctrl+Alt+Delete and this message pops up saying "Saved Dump file to C:/tempDump/TS2014" then I get the "RailWorks.exe has stopped working" message. This doesn't seem to happen on any other route I play. Longest I've been able to play the NY-New Haven is about 20 minutes (started at New Haven, game crashed as I pulled into Stamford.) Anyone know what's wrong here & what I can do to fix it? I don't want to feel like I wasted my money on something that doesn't even work.

I've noticed that parts of this route make heavy demands on my computer . . . so far, though, not heavy enough to cause a crash. Have you taken the standard steps: cleared the cache, deleted blueprints.pak files, and carried out a cache verification?

What Tom said plus I would try if need be dialing back some of your visual settings to see if that cures the problem. Do you have TSX on or off. Just to experiment if you have it on turn it off. That really lightens the requirements on the computer. Do all of these things and let us know what happened.

Yeah I've done most of that (dialing back settings, deleted blueprint files, etc). I don't even have TSX on at all. It still crashes regardless.

Do you want to tell us a little bit about your computer?

There seems to be some issues with the Q45 and gaming but I need someone better versed in hardware to jump in here on this one.

Graphics integrated into the CPU. OK for less demanding games, but not good for TS. Plus, this is a laptop. So with low quality graphics, and possibly a heat issue, I'm not surprised TS is crashing. Routes like this one have a lot of assets: buildings, scenery, AI traffic; that can drag a higher end graphics card down. Since you've already turned graphics settings down, I would bet this issue has more to do with heat. You could try a cooler pad under the laptop, see if that helps.

Wish they had named "laptops" portables or something else. The worst place to use a laptop is on your lap, on the bed, on the carpet. Blocks the cooling vents on the bottom.
