How to use gimp??

Is there a tutorial that goes more in depth about reskinning.. I have everything to reskin and all I know how to do is draw on the locomotive with a pencil or paintbrush with gimp, how do you actually add paint and how do you add a logo, all I know is what I saw in a video which was to draw a smiley face on it
